The pipefitter welders helper installs, maintains, and repairs piping systems that carry various substances like gasses, liquids or chemicals. They work in diverse settings, from industrial plants to commercial buildings, and their work involves interpreting blueprints, selecting materials, cutting and joining pipes, and ensuring system integrity. Assists welders in their daily tasks, preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe and efficient work environment. They handle tasks like cleaning and positioning materials, holding or securing parts, and operating tools. As they gain experience, they may progress to performing basic welding tasks and even advance to senior roles.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Reading and Interpreting Drawings:
  • Pipefitters must understand and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to plan and execute pipe system installations and repairs.
  • Material Selection and Preparation:
  • They select appropriate pipe sizes, materials (e.g., steel, PVC, copper), and related components (e.g., hangers, supports) based on project specifications.
  • Cutting, Threading, and Joining Pipes:
  • Pipefitters use various tools (saws, cutting torches, threading machines) to cut and prepare pipes for assembly. They then join pipes using methods like welding, brazing, threading, or specialized fittings.
  • Installation and Assembly:
  • They install and assemble piping systems, ensuring proper alignment, support, and connections.
  • Testing and Inspection:
  • Pipefitters test installed systems for leaks and other issues, often using pressure testing methods.
  • Maintenance and Repair:
  • They troubleshoot and repair existing pipe systems, replacing worn components, fixing leaks, and ensuring optimal system performance.
  • Safety Compliance:
  • Pipefitters adhere to safety regulations and guidelines, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of materials.
  • Working in Various Environments:
  • Pipefitters may work in diverse settings, including industrial plants, commercial buildings, and outdoor environments, often in confined spaces or at heights.

Requirements
S kills and Qualifications:
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of piping systems, materials, and installation techniques.
  • Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: Proficiency in using tools and equipment for cutting, joining, and installing pipes.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve issues in piping systems.
  • Physical Stamina: Pipefitting can be physically demanding, requiring lifting, bending, and working in various positions.
  • Safety Awareness: A strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures.
  • Knowledge of gas installation techniques and standards, has limited experience (preferred).
  • All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations
