Develops novel computational and statistical approaches for data generation, analysis, and interpretation of genomic data. Takes a lead role in researching, developing, and implementing the optimal analysis approach for a given genomic data set.


Job Description:


Essential Functions:

  • Leads the development of computational algorithms for analyzing biological data. Supports the needs of all aspects of NGS analysis including data generation, analysis, and interpretation, preparing novel methods and technologies for research and clinical production.
  • Collaborates effectively to design and implement bioinformatics solutions. Gathers requirements and reports on progress to key stakeholders.
  • Leads statistical analysis of large-scale biological datasets.
  • Maintains and updates bioinformatics databases and software tools.
  • Presents findings and results to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
  • Stays current with advancements in bioinformatics and computational biology.
  • Leads informatics contributions on journal publications and scientific conference presentations.
  • Mentors and supports less experienced team members.

Education Requirement:

PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biology, Genetics, or related field, required.

Skills:

  • Must have diverse computational and biological expertise.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with developers, scientists, and clinicians on projects that lead to publications and presentations at professional meetings.
  • Analytical skills and the ability to transcribe biological questions to code as well as the ability to translate research pipelines to clinical applications.

Experience:

  • Post-doc and 2 additional years of experience, or 5 years of experience practicing bioinformatics in a research or clinical setting.
  • Experience in bioinformatics, required.
  • Experience in human genetics, preferred.
  • Experience in mathematics, statistics, and computer science, preferred.
