What is the difference between Senior Behavioral Data Scientist vs Behavioral Data Scientist?

AspectSenior Behavioral Data ScientistBehavioral Data Scientist
Required ExperienceTypically 5+ years in data science, specialized in behavioral analyticsEntry to mid-level, 1-3 years experience in data analysis and behavioral modeling
ResponsibilitiesLeading projects, developing advanced models, mentoring juniorsSupporting data analysis, building models, assisting senior team members
Work EnvironmentCross-functional teams, strategic projects, often in tech or marketing firmsData teams, research projects, applied in marketing, UX, or product development

The main difference lies in experience and responsibility level. Senior Behavioral Data Scientists lead projects and mentor others, while Behavioral Data Scientists focus on supporting analysis and model development. Both roles require strong analytical skills and knowledge of behavioral data, but the senior role demands more experience and leadership responsibilities.

What is the highest paying job in behavioral health?

In behavioral health, senior roles such as Behavioral Health Director or Clinical Director typically have the highest salaries, often exceeding six figures. These positions require extensive experience, leadership skills, and often advanced certifications or degrees in psychology, social work, or healthcare administration.

How much does a senior data scientist earn?

A senior behavioral data scientist typically earns between $100,000 and $150,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Advanced skills in machine learning, statistical analysis, and programming tools like Python or R can influence salary levels.

What is the 80-20 rule in data science?

The 80-20 rule, also known as the Pareto principle, suggests that roughly 80% of effects come from 20% of causes. In data science, it often means that a small subset of features or data points significantly influences model performance or insights, emphasizing the importance of feature selection and data prioritization for a Senior Behavioral Data Scientist.

Is 40 too late for data science?

Age is not a barrier to becoming a senior behavioral data scientist, as the field values skills, experience, and continuous learning. Many professionals transition into data science later in their careers by acquiring relevant technical skills such as programming, statistics, and machine learning, often through online courses or certifications. Success depends on your ability to demonstrate expertise and adapt to evolving tools and methodologies.

Job description

Senior Data Scientist - Long Term Project - Remote (US/PST)
Title: Senior Data Scientist
Location: Remote (US/PST)
Duration: 12+ months long term project
Compensation: $106.31 - 132.31/hr.
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
As a Data Scientist III (Contractor) on the Insights Team, you'll be responsible for helping deepen our understanding of our players, our live games' performance, and our Games ecosystem. You'll conduct advanced statistical analyses, A/B testing and build predictive data models that leverage out of game data combined with game telemetry - in partnership with game analysts and researchers - to inform our understanding of the relationship between sentiment, player experience, and player engagement or monetization. This role blends rigorous experimentation, applied machine learning, and strategic insight generation to shape decisions that impact millions of players worldwide.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development of scalable insights, frameworks, and methodologies that deepen foundational understanding of player behavior and game ecosystems
  • Drive ambiguous, high-impact problem spaces end-to-end - partnering with product, design, engineering, and analytics to translate open-ended questions into rigorous analytical strategies and experimentation roadmaps
  • Own the design, execution, and interpretation of complex experimentation (A/B tests and beyond) to influence product, gameplay, and monetization decisions across portfolio
  • Develop advanced models and analytical frameworks to understand and predict player lifecycle dynamics, including retention, churn, engagement, and lifetime value
  • Synthesize findings into clear, actionable narratives and influence senior stakeholders through strong communication and data storytelling
  • Set direction for and evolve central data science products within the Central PubSports Insights domain, including defining roadmaps, improving reliability, and driving automation at scale
  • Mentor and elevate other data scientists and analysts by establishing best practices, enabling reproducibility, and scaling impact through shared tooling, documentation, and training

Required Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Machine Learning, AI, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field with 4+ years of industry experience (including postdoctoral work), or equivalent practical experience (M.S. with 6-8+ years, or B.S. with 8-10+ years)
  • Deep expertise in Python and SQL, with experience working on large-scale, distributed data systems (e.g., Spark, Databricks, or cloud-based platforms)
  • Proven track record of developing, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models in production environments (e.g., recommendation systems, churn prediction, personalization)
  • Strong foundation in causal inference and experimentation, including advanced methods beyond standard A/B testing (e.g., quasi-experiments, instrumental variables, uplift modeling)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently scope, prioritize, and execute complex analytical projects with significant business impact
  • Experience influencing product or business strategy through data-driven insights

Desired Qualifications
  • Deep intuition for player behavior, engagement loops, and monetization systems within games or digital products
  • Experience operating in highly cross-functional environments and influencing without direct authority
  • Strong leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance skills within data science or analytics teams
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to tailor insights to both technical and non-technical audiences and drive alignment across stakeholders

Our benefits package includes:
  • Comprehensive medical benefits
  • Competitive pay
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • ...and much more!
