FEV is seeking a highly skilled and motivated High Voltage Battery Systems Engineer to join our innovative team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and optimization of lithium-ion battery systems for hybrid and electric vehicles, supporting the future of sustainable transportation. The successful candidate will be involved in all phases of battery system development, from concept to production, ensuring the delivery of reliable and high-performance battery solutions.


Responsibilities:

  • Develop and define system requirements for high voltage battery systems in hybrid and electric vehicles
  • Design and implement battery management functions to ensure safety, reliability, and performance
  • Conduct system performance analysis and modeling to optimize battery system operation
  • Support verification and validation activities for battery control strategies and system performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system integration, testing, and troubleshooting of prototype and production-intent  battery systems
  • Support all phases of development, including concept design, prototype testing, validation, and production readiness
  • Document technical specifications, test plans, and validation results to ensure compliance with industry standards


Requirements:
  • US Citizen or Greencard required
  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in HV Battery Systems, Battery Management Systems, or Electrified Powertrain development
  • Proven experience in battery systems development, integration, and validation, preferably in the automotive industry
  • Strong understanding of lithium-ion battery chemistry, battery management systems, and control strategies, battery pack architectures
  • Experience with system modeling, performance analysis, and testing of high voltage battery systems
  • Knowledge of industry standards and safety regulations related to high voltage systems
  • Ability to develop, manage, and trace system-level and functional-level requirements.
  • Experience with battery system integration, performance evaluation, and vehicle-level interactions.
  • Strong understanding of battery state estimation, including State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), and State of Power (SOP).
  • Understanding of battery thermal management systems and associated control strategies.
  • Experience with battery charging and discharging strategies, including DC fast charging and industry-standard charging protocols.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication and diagnostic protocols, including CAN, CAN FD, and UDS.
  • Experience in battery system testing, validation, and performance analysis.
  • Proven ability to conduct and support MiL, HiL, battery pack-level, and vehicle-level validation activities.
  • Skilled in battery data analysis, including correlating simulation models with test results.
  • Familiarity with Functional Safety (ISO 26262), ASPICE, and systems engineering best practices.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with battery modeling, parameter identification, and battery simulation tools 
  • Experience with BMS algorithm development including SOC, SOH, and thermal management functions 
  • Knowledge of HV safety requirements, battery testing standards, and regulatory compliance preferred
  • Experience with cell, module, and pack validation activities 
  • Knowledge of battery abuse testing, safety standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficient in development tools such as MATLAB/Simulink (must), Embedded Coder, and C/C++
