Virginia State University seeks a Senior Accountant to serve as the lead Bank and Revenue Reconciliation Accountant within the Office of General Accounting. This position is responsible for performing complex and critical accounting functions that support the University's financial operations. The role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and reconciliation of local bank account and revenue activity across multiple accounting systems.
Serve as the Senior Bank Fund and Revenue Reconciliation Accountant for General Accounting.
Monitor, analyze, reconcile, and maintain accurate accounting records for local bank funds to ensure consistency between the University's accounting system (Banner) and external banking systems.
Perform monthly and fiscal year-end revenue reconciliations, including unearned/deferred revenue.
Maintain the accuracy and integrity of cash receipt transactions by reviewing and reconciling activity across multiple University bank accounts.
Process daily deposit certificates and journal entries from Cash & Investments for deposits coded to revenue and local bank wire activity.
Analyze, record, and reconcile student-related liability accounts for unearned/deferred revenue.
Review daily cash receipt information received from Cash & Investments and EDI wire deposits remittances (REDI-VA) and prepare/process the appropriate deposit certificates and journal entries.
Prepare and process adjusting journal entries in the University's accounting system (Banner) and the Commonwealth of Virginia accounting system (Cardinal).
Complete and/or assist with fiscal year-end financial report preparation.
Maintain well-organized files, documentation, and processing logs for all accounting transactions.

Minimum Qualifications

At least three (3) years of accounting work experience.
Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), particularly as applied to higher education and governmental entities.
Working knowledge of fiscal and accounting functions and operations.
Experience reconciling high-volume, high-dollar transactions totaling millions, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to perform thorough transaction analysis.
Working knowledge of computer systems, including both enterprise resource planning (ERP) and personal computer environments.
Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Additional Considerations

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting or business administration.
Experience working with the Banner accounting system.
Experience working with the Cardinal accounting system.
At least three (3) years of work experience in a fast-paced business environment.
Demonstrated accuracy and efficiency in performing financial computations and data entry.
