Position Overview

Are you a technical visionary ready to architect the future of the North American power grid? We are seeking a Senior Application Engineer to serve as the technical cornerstone of our Grid Services division. In this high-impact role, you will bridge the gap between complex engineering requirements and commercial execution, steering the development of sophisticated technical proposals for high-voltage substation projects. You are not merely responding to RFQs; you are designing the critical infrastructure that powers communities and industries across the continent.

Joining our team means aligning yourself with a global leader in power distribution and infrastructure solutions. This is an opportunity to take full ownership of the technical lifecycle—from initial concept and specification review through to installation and commissioning. Within this fast-paced environment, you will be empowered to lead multidisciplinary efforts, mentored by industry veterans, and positioned as a subject matter expert in a firm that prioritizes technical excellence and market-leading innovation.

Core Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Serve as the definitive subject matter expert for high-voltage substation apparatus, providing critical design guidance and system configuration strategies.

  • RFQ Strategy & Execution: Lead the engineering phase of the RFQ lifecycle, transforming complex customer specifications into technically sound, competitive, and innovative proposals.

  • System Integration: Develop comprehensive bills of materials, cost estimates, and engineering hour projections for major equipment, including power transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches.

  • Pre-Sales Engineering: Architect technical solutions through rigorous specification reviews, equipment compatibility verification, and proactive identification of technical risks.

  • Strategic Liaison: Act as the primary technical bridge between utility customers, internal sales teams, and global manufacturing partners to ensure seamless project delivery.

  • Proposal Craftsmanship: Author technical clarifications, assumptions, and exceptions, ensuring all bid packages are robust, compliant, and clearly defined.

  • Market Stewardship: Monitor emerging industry trends and grid modernization developments to maintain the firm’s competitive edge in power systems infrastructure.

  • Lifecycle Support: Oversee post-sales activities, ensuring that engineered solutions are successfully transitioned to the field for installation and commissioning.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience: 5+ years of dedicated experience in applications engineering or technical sales engineering specifically within the high-voltage substation sector.

  • Technical Expertise: Deep working knowledge of high-voltage apparatus, including main power transformers, instrument transformers, circuit breakers, and disconnect switches.

  • Industry Standards: Expert command of IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, UL, and IEC standards.

  • Proposal Mastery: Proven track record of interpreting and responding to complex utility and EPC specifications within a formal RFQ environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Education: Master’s degree in Engineering (M.S. or M.Eng).

  • Advanced Experience: 7+ years of experience in power systems equipment applications or proposal engineering.

  • Leadership Acumen: Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and facilitating technical workshops or solution-review sessions.

  • Certification: Ability to obtain and maintain specialized vendor certifications for advanced power equipment.
