Job description

Cloaked is a privacy startup dedicated to rebuilding consumer trust in how personal data is used. Our vision is to create an internet that serves the needs of its users, first and foremost, with individual privacy and opt-in at the core. Our product is a virtual "cloak" that you use as you visit any website such as Facebook, Amazon, etc. It lets you choose to share all, some, or none of your private information based on your personal preference.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Android Engineer to help build privacy-first mobile experiences across Cloaked's consumer platform. You'll move fast, ship UI-heavy features, and serve as a mobile authority on the team. This role spans our core product suite and greenfield initiatives - you'll contribute across Cloaked's engineering org and help shape how we build on mobile at scale.
What will you do?
  • Design, architect, and build privacy-first mobile applications across Android
  • Build and iterate rapidly on product features to support experimentation and product-market fit
  • Provide senior technical leadership on application architecture, code quality, and engineering best practices
  • Help the team ship features faster and with fewer bugs by raising the overall engineering bar
  • Collaborate with design, backend, and product teams to define, design, and ship new features
  • Implement new functionality and APIs, including REST and GraphQL integrations
  • Build and maintain performant, declarative UIs using Jetpack Compose
  • Apply Coroutines and Flow to write readable, maintainable business logic
  • Integrate offline-first data storage solutions such as Room or Realm
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex application issues across the stack
  • Write clean, maintainable, and scalable code following best practices and architecture patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture)
  • Conduct unit testing, including BDD/TDD, covering edge cases and ensuring overall application reliability
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural discussions
  • Actively leverage AI tools in day-to-day engineering work
  • Contribute across engineering teams and product areas as the business scales

What skills and experiences will help you?
  • Proficiency in Kotlin
  • Hands-on experience with Jetpack Compose, Flow, LiveData, Coroutines, and Dagger
  • Deep knowledge of mobile databases: Room, Realm, SQL
  • Strong understanding of backend API integration (RESTful)
  • Familiarity with Android architecture patterns (MVVM, state management, data flow)
  • Solid understanding of cryptographic principles: symmetric and asymmetric encryption
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and agile development practices
  • Track record shipping B2C consumer products at scale
  • Active daily use of AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude, Codex) with strong prompt judgment and tool selection instincts

What's nice to have?
  • PII handling and sensitive data awareness
  • Prior exposure to privacy/security-focused or fintech applications
  • Experience with client-side payment systems
  • Familiarity with Python, GraphQL, and cross-platform tooling

What do we like?
  • Passion for security, privacy, and internet ethics
  • Curiosity and constant learning in leading-edge mobile technologies
  • Strong analytical thinking with proactive problem-solving abilities
  • Ownership mentality
  • Effective team player in high-velocity environments
  • Comfortable mentoring and knowledge sharing across teams
  • Experience in startups or growth-stage companies
  • Interest in data tracking, analytics, and product instrumentation
