Job Description
At WGU, technology powers opportunity. We're looking for a talented and motivated Mobile Software Engineer II to help build and enhance the next generation of WGU's student mobile experience.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys building high-quality mobile applications, solving technical challenges, and contributing to products that directly impact students. As part of the Mobile Engineering team, you'll develop cross-platform experiences using Flutter and Dart while collaborating closely with product managers, designers, QA engineers, and backend teams to deliver scalable, accessible, and engaging mobile solutions.
You'll contribute throughout the software development lifecycle, from implementation and testing to release management and production support. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who wants to continue growing their mobile development expertise while working with modern technologies in a mission-driven organization.
What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain mobile applications using Flutter and Dart
  • Build responsive, accessible, and user-friendly experiences for iOS and Android platforms
  • Collaborate with engineers on application architecture, technical design, and implementation strategies
  • Integrate mobile applications with RESTful APIs and backend services
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance across mobile platforms
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and QA teams to deliver features and enhancements
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
  • Support CI/CD pipelines, release processes, and operational excellence
  • Contribute to Agile development practices and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in production support and issue resolution efforts

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Professional experience developing mobile applications using Flutter and Dart
  • Experience building and maintaining production applications for iOS and Android
  • Experience consuming and integrating RESTful APIs
  • Understanding of software architecture, object-oriented design principles, and mobile application development patterns
  • Experience writing automated tests and maintaining code quality
  • Familiarity with Git and modern software development workflows
  • Experience working in Agile development environments
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Flutter architecture and state management patterns such as BLoC, Cubit, Riverpod, or Provider
  • Experience publishing and supporting applications in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store
  • Familiarity with Swift, Kotlin, or native mobile development concepts
  • Experience with CI/CD platforms and automated mobile deployment pipelines
  • Experience with Firebase, analytics platforms, feature flagging, crash reporting, or mobile observability tools
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and mobile performance optimization
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
