Job description

As a Senior Accounting Associate, you'll be a trusted advisor to both our clients and our internal team. You will ensure our accounting work is accurate, timely, and meaningful while mentoring staff and helping clients better understand their financial information.
This role combines technical accounting expertise, project management, leadership, and client communication. Success isn't measured simply by completing accounting work-it's measured by helping clients make better business decisions with confidence.
In this role, you will:
  • Deliver exceptional accounting services that are accurate, timely, and easy for business owners to understand.
  • Review financial work prepared by team members and coach them toward continuous improvement.
  • Build trusted relationships by serving as a primary resource for client questions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client processes, internal workflows, and the overall client experience.
  • Think critically and proactively, solving problems before they become issues.

What You'll Do
Client Advisory & Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for an assigned portfolio of clients.
  • Answer client questions through phone, email, and virtual meetings.
  • Explain accounting concepts in plain language for first-time business owners.
  • Assist clients in understanding financial performance and business trends.
  • Build long-term relationships based on trust, responsiveness, and education.
  • Identify opportunities where clients may benefit from additional advisory or accounting services.

Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Review monthly financial statements for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Review account reconciliations and supporting schedules.
  • Ensure work complies with firm standards and applicable accounting principles.
  • Analyze financial statements for unusual fluctuations and investigate discrepancies.
  • Review client books using firm diagnostic tools and recommend improvements.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Complete complex accounting adjustments and journal entries when necessary.
  • Oversee cleanup projects and historical accounting corrections.

Leadership & Team Development
  • Review work prepared by Accounting Associates.
  • Provide constructive coaching and technical guidance.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
  • Answer accounting and software-related questions from staff.
  • Help establish best practices and standardized procedures across the department.
  • Foster a collaborative, learning-focused team environment.

Project & Workflow Management
  • Manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
  • Assign and monitor work across team members.
  • Ensure deadlines are met while maintaining quality standards.
  • Communicate proactively with clients regarding project status and timelines.
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
  • Participate in internal initiatives to improve efficiency and client experience.

Technology & Process Improvement
  • Train clients and staff on Xero, QuickBooks Online, and integrated cloud applications.
  • Recommend technology solutions that improve accounting processes.
  • Troubleshoot accounting software issues.
  • Assist with implementation of new software and workflow automation.
  • Continuously evaluate firm processes for efficiency and scalability.

Required Technical Skills
Accounting Expertise
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting concepts.
  • Advanced knowledge of the accounting cycle.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements.
  • Strong understanding of adjusting journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.

Financial Statement Analysis
  • Ability to analyze balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues requiring investigation.
  • Communicate financial insights clearly to clients.

Accounting Methods
  • Thorough understanding of:

  • Experience serving multiple clients simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of small business accounting.
  • Experience with real estate, professional service firms, creative businesses, or service-based companies is a plus.

Minimal travel required.
Occasional client meetings or firm events may require local travel.
Location & Schedule
This is a hybrid position.
Office Schedule
  • Three days per week in the Orlando office.
  • Wednesdays are required in-office collaboration days.
  • Standard office hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Remote Schedule
  • Two flexible work-from-home days each week.
  • Flexible working hours with manager approval while meeting client commitments.
