Description

The Senior Commercial Credit Underwriter is responsible for analyzing, underwriting, and approving commercial loan requests in accordance with the Bank's credit policies, regulatory requirements, and risk appetite. This role partners closely with Relationship Managers and Credit Officers to assess borrower creditworthiness, structure loans appropriately, and present well-supported credit recommendations for approval.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new and existing commercial loan requests, including C&I, commercial real estate (owner-occupied and investor), construction, and participation loans
  • Perform comprehensive financial analysis, including:
  • Spreading and analyzing business and personal financial statements
  • Cash flow and global debt service coverage analysis
  • Collateral and loan-to-value analysis
  • Industry, borrower, and guarantor risk assessment
  • Identify and document policy exceptions, mitigating factors, and credit risks
  • Prepare clear, concise Credit Approval Memos (CAMs) and underwriting narratives for submission to appropriate approval authorities
  • Recommend deal structure, loan terms, covenants, and conditions to mitigate risk
  • Partner with Relationship Managers throughout the loan lifecycle, from application through closing
  • Review appraisals, environmental reports, and third-party documentation as applicable
  • Support loan closing by reviewing final documentation and ensuring credit approval conditions are met
  • Monitor portfolio performance and covenant compliance, as assigned
  • Ensure adherence to all internal policies, regulatory requirements, and fair lending standards
  • Collaborate with credit, legal, loan operations, and risk management teams
  • Contribute to process improvements and support a strong credit culture

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
  • 3-5+ years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, credit analysis, or commercial lending
  • Strong understanding of common commercial loan products, credit structures, and documentation
  • Advanced financial statement and cash flow analysis skills
  • Working knowledge of banking regulations and credit risk management principles
  • Experience preparing and presenting credit memoranda to approval committees preferred
