Are you an accounting professional who enjoys solving problems, analyzing financial performance, and partnering with operational leaders to drive results? As a Senior Accountant at Coastal Waste & Recycling, you'll play a key role in supporting the financial health of our business by providing accurate reporting, meaningful analysis, and trusted financial guidance.
At Coastal, our Senior Accountants do more than prepare financial statements-they help leaders understand the story behind the numbers, strengthen financial controls, and support decisions that drive operational success.
Your Role
As a Senior Accountant, you'll partner closely with the Market Area Controller and operational leadership to support the financial performance of an assigned market. You'll prepare financial reports, analyze results, strengthen internal controls, and collaborate across departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and sound business decisions.
What You'll Do

  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting for assigned operations.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve operational results.
  • Support fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure tracking, and project accounting activities.
  • Maintain strong internal controls while ensuring compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Operations, Fleet Maintenance, Sales, Billing, Payroll, Accounts Payable, and other departments to resolve accounting issues and improve financial accuracy.
  • Assist with internal audits, external audits, tax reporting, and other compliance initiatives.
  • Recommend process improvements that strengthen financial reporting, efficiency, and internal controls.
  • Support acquisitions, operational integrations, system implementations, and other Finance initiatives.
  • At Coastal, we win as a team. Our Senior Accountants build strong partnerships, provide meaningful financial insight, solve complex problems, and help drive the financial success of our markets and the company.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related experience.
  • Three (3) or more years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to operational leaders.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial reporting systems.
  • CPA designation or active pursuit of a CPA, experience in public accounting, multi-location operations, Workday Financials or ERP systems, and experience within the waste, transportation, construction, manufacturing, or environmental services industries are a plus.

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Career Growth & Professional Development Opportunities
  • Opportunity to partner directly with operational leadership and influence business decisions
  • Collaborative Finance team committed to operational excellence and continuous improvement
  • Opportunity to grow your career with one of the fastest-growing environmental services companies in the Southeast
