Assistant/Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering (Physics, Semiconductors) - Fall 2025 Start
Department of Engineering and Physics
The Engineering program at NNU emphasizes high-quality education and robust, collaborative research. We are looking for a faculty member who is not only passionate about teaching but also eager to contribute to the growing body of research in semiconductor technologies, supporting both academic and industry-related innovations.
Description of Position
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join the Engineering program at NNU as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. This full-time faculty position is ideal for a candidate committed to teaching, research, and service, with a focus on fostering a high-quality learning environment and collaborating in interdisciplinary research. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing our educational mission and supporting the institution's goals through teaching, mentorship, and research.
Essential Functions
Teaching:
The candidate will teach core undergraduate courses in Electrical Engineering and Physics, with a focus on the following areas:
  • Digital and Analog Circuits
  • Microelectronic IC Design
  • Semiconductor Devices
  • Electronic Materials
  • Other relevant Electrical Engineering topics will also be considered

Faculty members will also participate in student recruitment and retention activities, advise undergraduate students, and supervise capstone projects and summer research initiatives.
Research/Scholarship/Creative Accomplishments:
  • The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with local industry partners, including Micron Technology R&D and other semiconductor companies in the Boise area, particularly in alignment with the goals of the CHIPS Act.
  • The role offers a chance to contribute to the growth of semiconductor research and development, while pursuing independent and interdisciplinary research projects.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
  • An earned Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field (candidates who are ABD will be considered, but degree completion is required by the date of appointment).
  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate rank should have a proven track record in scholarship, research funding, and mentoring undergraduate research students, along with significant service contributions to the academic community.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A strong record of scholarly publications.
  • Demonstrated potential to secure externally funded research.
  • Ability to engage in interdisciplinary research and collaborate with other departments or institutions.
  • Experience in supervising research projects, particularly for undergraduate students.

Compensation
Salary will be determined based on the educational background and experience of each applicant and will be discussed with individual candidates as they are invited to interview for this position.
