Role Summary
This position involves serving as a Systems Integration Engineer specializing in telecommunications within a federal government environment. The role requires providing technical mentorship while executing hands-on tasks related to the integration and migration of legacy copper systems to modern fiber and IP networks. The successful candidate will support critical NAS infrastructure projects, ensuring reliable and secure communication systems across multiple regional sites.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, integration, and testing of advanced telecommunications systems supporting the National Airspace System (NAS).
  • Manage the full lifecycle of network infrastructure projects, from planning through deployment and performance validation.
  • Direct the migration of TDM circuits to IP-based systems, ensuring seamless cutovers and circuit activations.
  • Assess requirement documents, recommend design modifications, and communicate technical updates effectively to engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot complex hardware, protocol, and network issues, supporting multi-state deployments and infrastructure support.
  • Monitor system performance using dashboards, KPIs, and technical reports to meet reliability standards for mission-critical data.
  • Prepare and deliver clear status updates, technical briefings, and dashboards to stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Support the physical and logical integration of fiber optic and IP-based circuits, ensuring adherence to operational standards.
  • Travel regionally to support multiple locations, with expenses reimbursed; may include short or long-distance travel.
  • Comply with all security and suitability requirements, including FAA suitability process.

Qualifications

  • This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; 4 additional years of relevant experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in telecommunications network engineering, circuit integration, or infrastructure planning.
  • Strong technical knowledge of BGP, TCP/IP, MPLS, IPv6, and telecommunications infrastructure for TDM-to-IP conversion.
  • Practical experience with fiber optic networking, telecom hardware, server-level deployments, and testing.
  • Proven ability to model network growth and optimize capacity during large-scale system upgrades.
  • Experience supporting ground networks, air-to-ground systems, and related technologies.
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP (preferred).
  • Certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, CCIE, AWS Solutions Architect, or INCOSE ASEP (preferred).
  • PMP or related project management certifications (preferred).
  • Familiarity with FAA BNATCS protocols or similar government network standards (preferred).

Publishing Pay Range: $74.00 - $79.00 hourly

This position is based in office and requires employee to work on-site.
