Responsibilities

We are seeking an Expert R&D Engineer to join the circuit simulation team for the advancement of our next-generation circuit simulation technologies. This role is focused on developing and improving the core simulation engine behind Keysight's industry-leading circuit simulation products. You will work with simulation experts, software architects, device modeling engineers, and product teams to identify critical technical challenges, develop innovative solutions, and influence the future direction of Keysight's circuit simulation technology.

We are looking for an exceptional engineer with deep expertise across electrical engineering, numerical algorithms, and software engineering. The ideal candidate understands both the mathematical foundations of circuit simulation and the practical challenges involved in building a high-performance, production-quality simulator.

About the Team

Our Circuit Simulation R&D team develops advanced simulation technologies used by engineers worldwide to design RF, microwave, analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed electronic systems.

The team combines expertise in:

  • Electrical circuit theory and semiconductor device behavior.
  • Numerical analysis and computational mathematics.
  • High-performance software engineering.
  • Large-scale simulation architecture and optimization.

We solve some of the most challenging computational problems in electronic design automation by combining algorithm innovation with robust software implementation.

Responsibilities

As an Expert R&D Engineer, you will:

  • Provide technical leadership in the development of advanced circuit simulation algorithms.
  • Investigate fundamental simulation challenges involving accuracy, convergence, performance, and scalability.
  • Develop innovative numerical algorithms for nonlinear circuit analysis and differential equation solving.
  • Improve solver technologies, including sparse matrix algorithms, nonlinear solution methods, and numerical integration techniques.
  • Evaluate and introduce advanced methods for simulation acceleration, including model order reduction, RC reduction, vector fitting, and parallel computation.
  • Analyze simulation performance and identify opportunities for significant improvements in runtime and memory efficiency.
  • Collaborate with experts across circuit simulation, device modeling, RF simulation, software architecture, and applications engineering.
  • Translate customer and product challenges into algorithmic solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance in simulation algorithms and software development practices.
  • Drive technical discussions, design reviews, and long-term technology direction.

  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D. preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience developing circuit simulation engines, numerical simulation software, or other large-scale scientific computing applications.
  • Strong knowledge of nonlinear equation solving, Newton-Raphson methods, convergence techniques, and differential equation analysis.
  • Deep understanding of sparse matrix algorithms and numerical linear algebra.
  • Expert-level programming skills in C++ with experience developing large, maintainable software systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex simulation behavior and translate mathematical concepts into reliable software implementations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across electrical engineering and software engineering disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • Strong expertise in transient (TRAN) simulation techniques and numerical integration methods, e.g. Adaptive timestep control, Backward Euler, Trapezoidal, Gear integration methods, Local truncation error estimation, Convergence acceleration techniques, etc.
  • Sparse solver technologies, e.g. Matrix ordering, Sparse factorization, Iterative and direct linear solvers.
