Job description

Job Summary:
Selective Insurance is a midsized U.S. domestic property and casualty insurance company with a strong financial performance history. The Data and Analytics Architect will be responsible for designing data platforms and applications, establishing architecture patterns, and collaborating with IT and business partners to enhance data and analytics capabilities.
Responsibilities:
• Works with Delivery Managers to balance rapid delivery of business solutions with sound technical solutions and on development team member competencies, skills, and overall productivity.
• Collaborate with Delivery teams to define, select, and implement data, analytics, and information solutions that consider business objectives and meet non-functional requirements.
• Assist the Enterprise Architect in the planning process for new business initiatives through buy/build recommendations, vendor solutions evaluations, assessing designs against company standards, evaluating technical risk and define and align technology and roadmaps with business strategies.
• Monitor trends and evaluates emerging technologies that are candidates for the future state data and analytics architecture or evolving business strategy and supports vendor analysis and proofs-of-concept to validate new technologies, solutions, and designs as needed.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to Junior Architects and Developers in data and analytics technologies, best practices, innovation, designs, and processes.
• Assists with tier 2 application production issues and challenging issues in any phase of the development lifecycle. Supports continuous improvement by identifying and proposing tuning opportunities.
• Identifies opportunities to increase efficiency, quality, and speed to market. Proposes actions to realize opportunities and advocates for DevOps/DataOps opportunities.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 7 to 10 years of experience in Data and Analytics Architecture
• Understanding of Data Design methodologies and their application in complex multi-tier systems.
• Knowledge of Real Time, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web Oriented Architecture (WOA)
• Strong understanding of Data warehouses, Data Marts and Data Lake.
• Ability to develop and architect solutions based on non-functional requirements.
• Superior technical knowledge in Data Quality, Standards, Governance, and Design
• Ability to effectively work well with people in other departments and/or outside of the enterprise.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication and the ability to communicate with audiences at varying technical levels.
Preferred:
• P&C Insurance industry experience preferred.
• Experience with Power BI, Azure ML, Azure Databricks, IICS and/or Informatica PowerCenter is preferred.
• Experience architecting and data modeling in Azure ecosystem is preferred.
