About the Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD):
The Indiana School for the Deaf (ISD) is a fully accredited school for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students in nursery school through high school. The Indiana School for the Deaf is accredited by AdvancED Indiana and the Conference of Educational Administrators of Schools and Programs for the Deaf (CEASD). It provides services to approximately 342 students enrolled on campus. About 60% of the students live on campus during the academic year. ISD offers a full range of social activities, including sports, clubs, and organizations.
Role Overview:
The School Housekeeper ensures regular cleaning in public, academic, and administrative areas. You will work closely with facilities staff to ensure all areas are free of debris, navigational, and safe for staff and students. Light grounds work may be requested for public events. American Sign Language (ASL) is not required.
Work schedule:
  • Monday - Friday as arranged with the supervisor.
  • Shift work is available and will be discussed during interviews.
  • You will work occassional weekends for special events.

Salary:
This position traditionally starts at $26,312.00 annually but may be commensureate with education and work experience. You will have opportunties for overtime to cover staff absences and special events. Use our Compensation Calculator to view the total compensation package.
A Day in the Life:
Responsibilities include:
  • Cleans restrooms, sinks, and mirrors.
  • Mops and waxes floors.
  • Dust and polish furniture.
  • Washes windows, blinds, and walls.
  • Distributes paper towels, bathroom tissue, cups, cleansing agents, etc.
  • Requisitions distribute and store supplies.
  • Reports needed repairs of equipment and facility.
  • Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
  • Working knowledge of the proper care of, and ability to use, cleaning equipment such as mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, power scrubbers, polishers, and buffers.
  • Working knowledge of the variety and uses of cleaning and sanitizing agents.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Assists in training new employees and completing necessary reports and order forms.
  • Effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

A degree is not required.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
