Job description

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Security is responsible for providing services that contribute to the preservation of life, protection of property and overall safety of the Medical Center community.
The primary function includes protection of staff, patients and the general public by;
  • Preventing and deterring crime through aggressive patrol activity
  • Providing education to staff, patients and visitors to reduce the likelihood of becoming victims
  • Conducting appropriate, thorough and efficient investigations of any/all inappropriate activity

Security provides assistance in all areas of the Medical Center, offering support in all patient care areas by assisting medical personnel in the maintenance and delivery of care to our patients and assistant to family members.
All Security staff is required to be available for variable shifts, rotations or short notice call for emergency response.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Skills Required:
1. High School Diploma required.
2. Must have valid New York State Driver's License and be insurable.
3. Applicant must not have any local, state, federal criminal record.
4. New York State Security 8 Hour Pre-assignment Certificate or currently registered NY State Security Guard is preferred.
5. Must be eligible to register as New York State Security officer upon hiring.
6. Prior experience working with the general public or in related field preferred.
7. Prior CPR/BLS certification preferred; current EMT certification a plus.
8. Must successfully complete Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations (PMCS) training in the first 30 days of employment.
9. Personal vehicle for on-the-job transportation required.
10. Computer skills preferred.
11. Exercise good judgment in reacting to emergency situations.
12. Be able to read, write well and maintain neat and accurate shift reports and logs.
13. Possess good verbal communication skills.
14. Must read, agree to adhere and sign Security Department Code of Ethics.
As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
