More than 2,500 team members at more than 70 Tidelands Health locations bring our healing mission to life each day. **A Brief Overview** The Director of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management provides oversight of hospital operations related to waste management, fire protection and prevention, internal and external disaster response, and the security program. Responsibilities include the development and management of the human and financial resources necessary to support these program areas. The role directs and oversees the activities of supervisory personnel, security officers, drivers, and parking attendants, as applicable. This position is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of procedures, standards, and policies related to safety, security, parking, and visitor control. The Director coordinates system safety committees, disaster preparedness committees, and associated resources to ensure organizational readiness and compliance. The role models behaviors aligned with the organization's mission, vision, and values. **What you will do*** Direct the Emergency Preparedness Program by developing, maintaining, and updating the Emergency Operations Plan for internal and external incidents.* Oversee safety, security, fire protection, and prevention programs to ensure organizational readiness, regulatory compliance, and effective risk mitigation.* Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and standards related to safety, security, parking, and visitor control.* Serve as the designated Emergency Management leader, ensuring preparedness planning and response activities meet Joint Commission and regulatory requirements.* Plan, conduct, and evaluate emergency preparedness drills and exercises, and implement corrective actions to strengthen response capabilities.* Implement and support the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) through organization‐wide education, training, and coordination.* Conduct routine safety and security risk assessments and recommend improvements to physical security systems, staffing models, and operational controls.* Manage human and financial resources supporting safety, security, and emergency management programs, including identifying grant opportunities, securing funding, and coordinating approved purchases and training.* Represent the organization in local, regional, and state emergency planning initiatives by building collaborative relationships with law enforcement, emergency responders, and community partners.* Exercise authority as the designated Safety Officer to intervene and halt unsafe activities while promoting a culture of safety, preparedness, and continuous improvement.**Education Qualifications*** Bachelor's Degree in nursing, biology, public health, environmental health, emergency management, criminal justice or other related area Required**Experience Qualifications*** 2 or more years of recent experience as a hospital system safety, security or emergency preparedness director / manager Required* Prior experience in strategic disaster preparation including hurricane preparation experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities Required* Prior experience in emergency preparedness including strategic planning for disasters and other risks to the community, and coordination of hospital incident command center operations Required* Prior experience collaborating with clinical departments and medical staff, senior leadership, or external organizations Required* Experience with participation in a large disaster response effort Preferred* Experience as clinical nurse specialist, respiratory therapist, pharmacist, laboratory technologist, paramedic or other related clinical area Preferred**Skills and Abilities*** Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)* Familiarity with physical security systems (access control, security cameras, visitor management systems)* Understanding of workplace safety requirements, PPE usage, and emergency response procedures* Basic awareness of data management and reporting practices used for decision making* Written and verbal communication skills* Leadership, interpersonal, and consensus building skills* Operational problem solving and decision making skills* Ability to work effectively in a team environment* Data organization, maintenance, and reporting skills* Manual dexterity to operate emergency response and safety equipment* Ability to manage stress and adapt to rapidly changing priorities* Ability to self motivate and meet organizational goals and project deadlines* Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required* Ability to work in inclement weather (heat, cold, outdoor conditions)* Ability to wear PPE, including breathing on a contained respirator for extended periods* Ability to meet physical demands, including:* Ability to see and hear adequately to ensure safe operations and effective communication* Ability to speak fluent English; Spanish or other secondary language preferred**Licenses and Certifications*** Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator - Internatioal Association for Healthcare Security & Safety within 1-1/2 Yrs Required or* Certified Protection Professional - American Society for Industrial Security within 1-1/2 Yrs Required or* Certified Healthcare Safety Professional - International Board for Certification Services and Management within 1-1/2 Yrs Required* Certified completion of national disaster courses for hurricane preparedness Required* completion of the following FEMA courses: IS 100, IS 200, IS 700.
