Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Security Operations I, the Supervisor of Security Operations II, the Manager of Security and the Chief Security Operations Officer, a Security Officer Professional II is responsible for promoting a safe and secure environment at Hoag properties through a variety of methods and approaches. Security Officer Professionals will routinely employ common sense and sound judgment to troubleshoot a wide range of security related issues, striving for effective and collaborative solutions that are consistent with company policy the organization's mission.
Security Officers at Hoag are effective communicators with strong interpersonal skills, who are service-oriented and patient focused.
The role requires response to a wide range of security related calls; these calls may involve suspicious activity occurring on Hoag properties, crimes in progress, unsafe situations related to the physical environment, traffic or parking related matters, or issues pertaining to workplace violence, for example. The role also includes auditing the serviceability of security cameras and other security related technology, managing supplies and ensuring proper procedures are followed related to contractor badge issuance. This role may serve as a Security Dispatcher as well.
The role also requires a high degree of motivation, as routine duties will also include proactive patrols of Hoag properties and the ability to recognize and appropriately respond to unsafe or suspicious activity.
To be effective in this assignment, a Security Officer Professional II will be trained and/or skilled in various areas, including de-escalation and effective communication techniques, laws of arrest, use of reasonable force, physical intervention techniques, how to conduct proper investigations and report writing.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Required Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of healthcare experience in a security related position or 2 years of relevant or equivalent experience
  • Record must be free from any criminal convictions involving acts of moral turpitude, or excessive traffic violations
Required (within six months of assignment):
  • First Aid / CPR / AED
  • IAHSS (Basic or Advanced), FEMA ICS 100
Preferred Experience and Training:
  • Prior military, law enforcement, code enforcement, customer service industry or hospital security experience
  • PC 832 - Arrest, FEMA ICS 200, HAZWOPER
Training in any of the following areas:
  • Effective communication, and de-escalation techniques
  • Trauma-Informed Care and cultural sensitivity
  • Workplace violence response, Use of reasonable force; management of aggressive behavior, Handcuffing techniques and use of restraints, Laws of arrest
  • Field investigations and Report Writing
Completion of Initial and Ongoing Training:
Ability to successfully complete a security officer classroom and field-training orientation program (for new hires); topics include, but are not limited to:
  • Customer service, Effective communication, and de-escalation techniques
  • Trauma-Informed Care and cultural sensitivity
  • Workplace violence response, Use of reasonable force; management of aggressive behavior, Handcuffing techniques and use of restraints, Laws of arrest
  • Field investigations and Report Writing, Demonstration of knowledge and hands-on skills in a field setting
Completion of a minimum of 24 hours of in-service annual training related to the role
License Required:
  • Valid Bureau of Security and Investigative Services License for Security Guard
  • Valid California driver's license
