Job description

Position Title: Safety and Security Staff

Department: Safety and Security

Reports To: Security Manager

Range: $17.75/hr - $20.00hr (pay rate to commensurate with experience)

Together, Ravinia’s initiatives serve tens of thousands of students, families, and emerging professional musicians.

Our 36-acre park is home to North America’s longest-running outdoor music festival and its most artistically diverse. Over 100 different events, featuring a mix of classical, rock, pop, jazz, R&B, indie, and country performers, make up a typical summer season across our open-air and indoor stages, including the annual residency of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Security Manager, the Safety and Security Staff ensures the well-being of artists, guests, and staff by the protection of property and premises by enforcing rules related to public health, buildings, and grounds. This role involves monitoring, patrolling, and responding to security incidents. Working shifts vary from park open to park close during the summer concert season.

The Ravinia guest experience is more than the performance on stage, this role requires staff to provide excellent customer service as often the first person our guests interact with.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce park policies and procedures, completing incident reports as required

  • Respond to medical and safety incidents in accordance with established emergency protocols

  • Promote a safe and secure environment for guests and staff through proactive awareness and support

  • Assist guests during ingress and egress, providing support and identifying when assistance may be needed

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Ravinia’s grounds, operations, and policies

Other duties as assigned


Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Fluency in English, must be able to effectively communicate

  • Demonstrated ability to remain poised during challenging situations and respond with professionalism and empathy

  • Strong customer service and communication skills

  • Prior experience in security or law enforcement preferred


Education and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent (GED).


Work Environment

  • The Ravinia season runs from June through September. Priority in hiring will be given to applicants who are available to work the entire season.

  • This position is outdoors and in all weather conditions with prolonged periods of standing.

  • This position requires mostly afternoon/evening hours. Applicants must be available for both weekday and weekend hours.
