Job description

Salary: $23- $28/ hour

Job Summary:


This is a field service position. The Locksmith is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining locks, deadbolts, safes, and other locking devices used for safeguarding homes, businesses, and other property for ADS customers. The position plays a key role in external customer retention by addressing concerns and communicating in a professional, positive manner. The Locksmith is expected to work independently, manage assigned service calls, and perform all work in accordance with ADS quality, safety, and customer service standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:


  • Accurately complete all required paperwork and electronic documentation in a timely manner.
  • Use proper hand and power tools to:
    • Install, modify, and repair locks and locking devices.
    • Install and repair safes.
    • Make new master keys, reset combinations, and re-key doors.
  • Determine appropriate lock types and hardware based on customer needs for new or replacement installations.
  • Cut or drill proper openings and fit locks using power tools.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve residential and commercial lockouts.
  • Make final adjustments to locks to ensure proper operation.
  • Install electric door strikes and related door hardware for card access and access control installations.
  • Assist with basic low-voltage components and door hardware related to electronic access control systems, as required.
  • Maintain company-issued tools, equipment, inventory, and vehicle in good working condition; report damaged or missing items promptly.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct while representing ADS at customer locations.
  • Use required personal protective equipment while completing work requests.
  • Clearly communicate work performed and address customer questions when appropriate.
  • Observe and comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Work at customer locations, including residential and commercial properties.
  • Participate in night on-call rotating schedule.
  • Maintain punctuality and adhere to attendance requirements and scheduling expectations.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.


Education/Experience:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a locksmith or in a related skilled trade is strongly preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Strong mechanical aptitude is essential, with the ability to diagnose problems, troubleshoot in the field, and perform precise mechanical and electronic adjustments.
  • Demonstrated expert-level proficiency in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools, including drills, grinders, saws, and related equipment.
  • Solid working knowledge of locks, safes, and access controlrelated door hardware.
  • Basic understanding of electricity and low-voltage electronics as they relate to locking and access control systems.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical specifications, diagrams, operating manuals, and verbal or written instructions.
  • High level of manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in basic computer use, including mobile devices, electronic work orders, and documentation systems.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate professionally, explain work performed, and represent ADS positively at all customer locations.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to pass background screening consistent with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to drive a truck and trailer is a plus.


Licenses/Certifications:


  • ALOA Locksmith certification or locksmith school training is highly preferred.
  • Medeco training is highly preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Permanent Employee Registration Card from the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (Illinois employees only).
  • Maintain a valid drivers license with an insurable driving record and ability to operate a company vehicle for work assignments.
