Job description

GuidePoint Security provides trusted cybersecurity expertise, solutions and services that help organizations make better decisions and minimize risk. By taking a three-tiered, holistic approach for evaluating security posture and ecosystems, GuidePoint enables some of the nation's top organizations, such as Fortune 500 companies and U.S. government agencies, to identify threats, optimize resources and integrate best-fit solutions that mitigate risk.
NOTE: Applicants MUST currently live in Denver, CO to be considered.
About This Role
GuidePoint Security is looking for a passionate, driven Security Engineer to join our Heartland team in Denver, CO. This is more than a technical role - it's a career accelerator. You'll start by leveraging your foundational network security expertise to solve real-world problems for our clients, and over time, grow into a trusted strategic security advisor who shapes how organizations think about and invest in their security posture.
If you're someone who thrives on learning, loves breaking down complex problems, and wants to evolve from hands-on engineer to a consultative pre-sales expert who influences security strategy at the highest levels - this is your opportunity.
What You'll Do
  • Serve as a technical resource for clients across the Heartland region, delivering hands-on support, design guidance, and security best practices in the network security domain
  • Collaborate with sales teams to scope solutions, conduct technical discovery, and present security architectures that align with client business objectives
  • Build and maintain deep expertise in network security platforms, translating technical capabilities into strategic business outcomes for clients
  • Develop trusted advisor relationships with client stakeholders by demonstrating empathy, active listening, and a genuine commitment to solving their challenges
  • Produce clear, concise documentation including security assessments, architecture recommendations, and implementation guides
  • Continuously expand your knowledge across adjacent security domains, working toward becoming a well-rounded security strategist
  • Embrace emerging technologies, including AI tools, to work smarter, solve problems, and drive better business outcomes

What You Bring Today
  • Network Security Foundation - Hands-on experience with network security products and concepts such as zero trust architecture, next-generation firewalls, application identification (AppID), micro-segmentation, and secure access
  • Firewall & Platform Proficiency - Proven experience working with firewall and network security platforms such as Palo Alto Networks, Checkpoint, and/or Fortinet
  • Troubleshooting Ability - Familiarity with common troubleshooting methodologies on network security platforms, including firewalls, routing, NAT, and VPN
  • Operating System Knowledge - Proficiency across client and server operating systems including Windows, macOS, and Linux
  • Security Fundamentals - Working knowledge of general security concepts aligning with CISSP domains (you don't need the cert, but you understand the landscape)
  • Communication Skills - Comfortable producing clear, concise reports and documentation related to security incidents, system performance, and recommendations

Who You Are (The Intangibles That Matter Most)
Technical skills can be taught. The qualities below are what set great candidates apart and define who will thrive in this role:
  • Relentless Curiosity - You ask "why" and "what if" constantly. You're not satisfied with surface-level answers and you actively seek to understand how things work end-to-end
  • Growth Mindset - You see every engagement as a learning opportunity. Feedback energizes you, and you're always working to level up your craft
  • Emotional Intelligence - You read the room. You understand that great security advice means nothing if it isn't delivered with empathy, patience, and an understanding of your audience
  • Problem-Solving Drive - You approach challenges with creativity and persistence. When the path isn't clear, you find a way forward
  • Aptitude Over Perfection - You may not have all the answers today, but you have the intellectual horsepower and determination to get there quickly
  • Ownership & Autonomy - You can prioritize across multiple projects and deliver results without needing someone looking over your shoulder

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with adjacent security solutions including CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Zscaler, Microsoft Defender suite, Carbon Black, Splunk, and/or Cisco security products
  • Experience authoring security runbooks, policies, and best practice documentation
  • Exposure to pre-sales, client-facing consulting, or solution architecture (even informally)
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience
  • Industry certifications (PCNSE, CCNP Security, CISSP, etc.) are a plus but not required

Where This Role Takes You
This isn't a dead-end technical position. At GuidePoint Security, we invest in our people - and this role is a launchpad, not a landing spot. The trajectory for this role leads toward becoming a Strategic Security Advisor - someone who sits at the intersection of deep technical knowledge and business acumen, guiding organizations through their most critical security decisions. You'll have mentorship, direct exposure to enterprise clients, and the freedom to carve your own path in the cybersecurity industry.
