Job description

Century Downs Racetrack and Casino is looking for a Dual Rate Security Guard / Supervisor to join our team. This unique role allows you to work primarily as a Security Guard, while stepping into the Supervisor role when coverage is required.

The Role

As a Security Guard, you’ll protect guests, staff, and assets, while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment in line with company policies and regulatory requirements. When assigned as Supervisor, you’ll provide leadership to the security team, oversee operations, and act as the primary contact for escalated incidents, regulators, and management.

What You’ll Do (Security Guard Duties)

  1. Safeguard Guests & Staff – Ensure a safe, secure, and positive environment throughout the casino and racetrack.
  2. Protect Assets – Escort and monitor cash/chip transfers in line with AGLC and casino policies.
  3. Respond to Emergencies – Act quickly during medical, security, or safety incidents.
  4. Investigate & Report – Document incidents, collect evidence, and maintain accurate records.
  5. Patrol & Monitor – Conduct preventative patrols and enforce policies.
  6. Support Law & Regulators – Work with AGLC inspectors and follow all applicable laws.
  7. Deliver Great Service – Provide professional, friendly, and courteous assistance.
  8. Communicate Effectively – Use radios and reporting systems to coordinate with the team.
  9. Stay Alert & Professional – Remain vigilant, exercise good judgment, and follow procedures.
  10. Team Player – Support supervisors and colleagues to ensure a respectful workplace.

What You’ll Do (Supervisor Duties when assigned)

  • Lead the shift and supervise Security Guards, ensuring effective coverage and performance.
  • Assign posts, duties, and breaks fairly and efficiently.
  • Monitor and review incident reports; ensure proper investigation and documentation.
  • Act as the main point of contact for escalated guest or staff concerns.
  • Liaise with AGLC inspectors, law enforcement, and other regulators as required.
  • Ensure compliance with casino policies, procedures, and provincial/federal regulations.
  • Support training and mentoring of new Security Guards.
  • Provide clear direction, communication, and leadership to the security team.
  • Report directly to the Security Manager on incidents, staffing, and shift performance.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Background:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a Security Supervisor role (required).
  • Previous casino security experience (required).

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and decision-making ability.
  • Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Education & Certifications:

  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Must possess or willing to obtain the following prior to hire:
    • AGLC Security License
    • ProServe Certification
    • Protect Certification
    • Deal Us In Phase 1 & 2
    • Standard First Aid Level C with AED (within first 90 days)
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Schedule 

  • 12-hour shifts 
  • Weekend availability required
  • Supervisor duties assigned on a relief basis
