Job description

Carpenter Co has an immediate opening for a 3rd Shift -Yard Driver (Spotter) at our Temple, Texas manufacturing plant. The Yard Driver is responsible for the timely movement of trailers to and from specific loading docks for the loading of finished products for delivery to external customers and the staging of loaded trailers in specific locations for over the road drivers to hook up to for delivery to external customers.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. This position requires daily communication with security guards, Production Plant management and personnel and over the road Drivers to make sure the proper loads of customer orders are pulled by the proper driver and delivered to the correct external customer.  They will work in a normal traffic department environment with exposure to temperature changes. Major challenges involve the safe operation of the equipment and the ability to back trailers into defined confined areas. During down-times will assist the truck shop with maintenance duties in the truck shop and on trucks/trailers, as needed.

 Key Job Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Spot trailers in the dock for loading
  • Check trailers and tires for any damages
  • Do a trailer report for every shift
  • Keep parking lot organized, clean and well maintained
  • On the job training for maintenance work in the truck shop 

Skills/ Requirements

  • Experience spotting in a yard, driving a truck or working in a truck shop.
  • Must have a safe driving record
  • Must be able to work any hours and overtime if necessary

Minimum Qualifications: Must have a safe driving record; Must be able to work any hours and overtime if necessary. 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with trucks and/or trucking preferred.
