What is a security engineer?

A service provider is responsible for delivering professional quality services on behalf of a business or organization. The types of services vary depending on the businesses they work with. Many companies partner with experts in the local community to perform functions on their behalf rather than developing the expertise in-house. A service provider performs the services based on a written legal agreement and charges fees for their work.

How does a security engineer typically collaborate with other IT teams within an organization?

Security Engineers work closely with various IT teams such as network administrators, software developers, and system administrators to ensure security protocols are integrated at every level. This collaboration often involves conducting security assessments, reviewing code for vulnerabilities, and assisting with incident response. Regular meetings and cross-functional projects are common, as Security Engineers provide guidance on best practices and help teams understand potential threats. Job description

Senior / Staff Security Engineer | AI Infrastructure Startup
I'm working with a fast-growing AI infrastructure startup that's looking for its first dedicated Senior / Staff Security Engineer to build and own security from the ground up.
Their platform powers AI applications for some of the world's leading organizations, and they're now looking for someone who can establish a modern security program across application security, infrastructure, and the software supply chain. This is a rare opportunity to have a lasting impact on both the product and the engineering culture while working directly alongside the founders and senior engineering leadership.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Build and own the company's security program from the ground up
  • Design and implement application security practices throughout the SDLC
  • Secure CI/CD pipelines and software supply chain
  • Partner closely with engineering to embed security into product development
  • Identify and remediate application and infrastructure security risks
  • Develop security tooling, automation, and best practices
  • Shape long-term security strategy and help build the security team over time
What They're Looking For
  • Strong background in application security and secure software development
  • Experience building a security program from scratch (0→1 ownership)
  • Hands-on experience securing CI/CD pipelines and modern cloud infrastructure
  • Strong programming ability in Python and/or Rust
  • Solid computer science and backend engineering fundamentals
  • Passion for security beyond work through activities such as CTFs, vulnerability research, bug bounties, or open-source security projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Why Join?
  • Be the first dedicated Security Engineer at a rapidly growing AI infrastructure company
  • Own security strategy and execution from day one
  • Work directly with engineering leadership rather than acting as a traditional security gatekeeper
  • Opportunity to build and mentor a security team as the company scales
  • Join an engineering-first culture solving challenging infrastructure and AI security problems
  • Significant equity opportunity at an early stage
Compensation & Benefits
Location: Remote (San Francisco preferred)
Salary: $220,000-$260,000 base
Equity: 0.1%-0.3%
Benefits: Medical, dental, and vision
