Job description


BNY is seeking a highly experienced and strategic leader to serve as Director of Global Physical Security Design. This role is responsible for establishing and evolving global physical security design standards across BNY locations, ensuring alignment with industry best practices, changing threat landscapes, regulatory expectations, and enterprise design requirements. The position will lead the development of security design standards for physical controls, access control, video monitoring, and specialized secure spaces, while partnering closely with internal stakeholders and third parties involved in office design, construction, and renovation.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure BNY physical security design remains aligned with industry best practices and continues to evolve in response to the global threat landscape.
  • Develop and maintain standards for physical security controls, including doors and hardware, turnstiles, gates, fences, vehicle barriers, and similar controls, in a manner that addresses threat exposure while supporting BNY aesthetic expectations.
  • Create and maintain standards for access control systems and video monitoring across BNY-occupied locations.
  • Design specialized security solutions and technical specifications to address unique security, operational, and audit requirements for special-use rooms and sensitive spaces.
  • Manage and oversee the security design of new office projects and office remodels in partnership with third-party architects, engineers, consultants, and vendors to ensure BNY standards are consistently achieved.
  • Review design options for BNY offices with a focus on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles, partnering with architects and design teams to enhance employee and visitor safety.
  • Collaborate with Facilities and related partners to ensure physical security design properly incorporates and addresses broader facilities security concerns.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, design approaches, and solutions to improve the effectiveness and maturity of BNY physical security.
  • Work with appropriate third parties to ensure all BNY security designs comply with applicable national, regional, and local code requirements.
  • Ensure all designs submitted to Construction Project Management comply with BNY physical security standards and requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for physical security design-related matters, providing subject matter expertise and guidance across projects and stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Significant experience in physical security design, architecture, engineering, construction, or a related discipline, with leadership responsibility across multiple sites or regions.
  • Strong knowledge of physical security systems and controls, including perimeter security, access control, video surveillance, and protective design measures.
  • Demonstrated experience developing enterprise standards and technical design specifications for physical security environments.
  • Knowledge of CPTED principles and their practical application in workplace and corporate environments.
  • Experience partnering with architects, facilities teams, project managers, construction teams, and external vendors.
  • Strong understanding of national and local building code considerations relevant to security design.
  • Ability to balance security requirements, operational needs, user experience, and aesthetic considerations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and provide clear design guidance.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
