Responsibilities

The Control Systems Programmer is responsible for programming, integrating, testing, and documenting audiovisual control systems and related technologies in support of complex AV and broadcast environments. This role supports implementation of wired and wireless AV systems, digital signal processing, networked media components, and associated user interfaces to ensure reliable, secure, and operationally effective system performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, configure, and maintain AV control system code, user interfaces, DSP configurations, routing logic, presets, and supporting software artifacts.
  • Integrate programmed components into a complete control environment and validate system functionality against approved technical requirements and operational workflows.
  • Support installation, configuration, and commissioning of AV systems, networked AV devices, racks, cabling, and related infrastructure.
  • Perform functional testing, troubleshooting, defect correction, and retesting to ensure systems are ready for acceptance.
  • Produce and maintain programming packages, source code archives, configuration files, firmware records, device settings, and other technical documentation required for sustainment.
  • Assist with development of as-built documentation, red-line updates, equipment labeling, and turnover materials.
  • Coordinate with engineers, installers, project managers, Government stakeholders, and end users to support implementation and acceptance activities.
  • Provide operator training and technical support for deployed control systems as required.
  • Experience programming AV control systems, DSPs, and networked media components in professional, enterprise, education, or government environments.
  • Working knowledge of AV system integration, signal flow, device configuration, and system-level troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering documentation such as system design packages, signal flow diagrams, rack elevations, equipment lists, and requirements traceability materials.
  • Experience with system testing, validation, and documentation, including configuration tracking and acceptance support.
  • Familiarity with structured cabling, equipment labeling, and installation best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and customer representatives.
QualificationsEducation and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Audio Visual Systems, or a related technical field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience programming and supporting control systems, audiovisual technologies, or closely related integrated technology environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with AV control platforms, DSP configuration, device integration, and system troubleshooting in operational environments.
  • Experience supporting testing, commissioning, documentation, and turnover of integrated systems is strongly preferred.

Additional preferred experience: Experience working in government, defense, higher education, or other mission-critical environments; familiarity with engineering design documentation; and experience with platforms such as Crestron, AMX, or Extron are highly desirable.

Preferred certifications and experience may include: AVIXA CTS or CTS-I credentials, relevant manufacturer certifications, experience with platforms such as Crestron, AMX, or Extron, and familiarity with military, higher education, broadcast, or other mission-critical environments. Knowledge of applicable AV, broadcast, and telecommunications standards such as ANSI/TIA, SMPTE, Dante, and NDI is also beneficial.

Work Environment:

This position works in active installation and operational environments and may support classrooms, studios, control rooms, and other technology-enabled spaces. The Control Systems Programmer is expected to deliver accurate programming packages, testing results, configuration records, training materials, and turnover documentation that support system acceptance, maintainability, and long-term operational success.
