Alaska Automation Capability - Systems Engineer - Senior

Location: Anchorage, AK

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced Systems Engineer - Senior to support the FAA Alaska Automation Capability (AAC) program. In this role, you will plan, manage, deconflict, streamline, and execute the procurement of equipment, services, and construction to support Alaska Flight Service modernization. Using a holistic systems engineering approach, you will support the design, develop, evaluate, and modify end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products throughout their entire life cycle.

This position plays a critical role in transitioning radio communications from legacy architectures to modern IP-based environments in coordination with Telecommunications Integrated Services (TIS), while simultaneously ensuring all system requirements are rigorously defined, verified, and validated against customer and government standards.

Work Location:

This position is 100% on-site, located in Anchorage, Alaska.

The ability to travel to remote locations.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Synchronize cutover schedules stakeholders to minimize outages and maintain pilot-to-controller communication. Verify legacy and VoIP radio system integration with the new Voice Communication System (VCS).  Ensure vendor adherence to technical, logistics, cybersecurity, and safety requirements throughout migration.
  • Generate quantifiable requirements based on customer needs, system design, and acquisition logistics.
  • Translate high-level strategies into system requirement specifications and lower-level implementation requirements with multi-discipline teams.
  • Ensure compliance with client and government standards through formal verification methods. Establish and coordinate standards, practices, and procedures across the product development lifecycle.
  • Support the design, development, and evaluation of end-to-end systems across their full life cycle.
  • Design interfaces and integrate system elements to ensure cohesive end-to-end performance.
  • Participate in design reviews of hardware and software components to ensure requirements traceability and compliance.
  • Generate system-level verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures.
  • Review test plans to ensure they meet contractual objectives and participate in testing to validate requirements.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; minimum of 3 years with PhD in systems or infrastructure engineering; Minimum 12 years in lieu of a degree
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance. 
  • Experience supporting FAA, DoD, or other federal aviation/ telecommunications programs.
  • Familiarity with Voice over IP (VoIP) systems, Voice Communication Systems (VCS), and legacy radio architectures.
  • Strong background in systems engineering principles, including requirements development, verification, and validation.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity requirements and compliance frameworks applicable to federal communications infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to coordinate across multi-discipline engineering teams and manage complex stakeholder environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required FAA public trust security clearance/suitability determination.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting FAA programs or National Airspace System (NAS) infrastructure projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Aviation Systems.

Target Salary Range$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
