Second Chance Remote information

What is a second chance remote?

Second Chance Remote jobs are employment opportunities offered by companies that are open to hiring individuals with criminal records or those seeking a fresh start after past mistakes. These jobs are typically remote, meaning you can work from home or anywhere with internet access. Employers offering second chance opportunities believe in giving people the ability to rebuild their lives, often providing support, training, and flexible positions. Such roles can range from customer service and data entry to IT and creative work. Second chance remote jobs help break down the barriers to employment for those with non-traditional backgrounds.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a second chance remote position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a second chance remote position, you generally need a high school diploma or GED, basic computer literacy, and a willingness to learn. Familiarity with remote collaboration tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and cloud-based platforms is often required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and reliability help candidates stand out and build trust with employers. These skills are important because they demonstrate your ability to contribute productively and responsibly in a remote work environment, regardless of your background.

What unique challenges might I encounter when working in a second chance remote role, and how can I overcome them?

Second Chance Remote roles often involve supporting individuals with prior barriers to employment, such as past incarceration or significant career gaps. You may encounter challenges such as building trust with clients, navigating complex personal situations, and balancing empathy with accountability. Overcoming these challenges requires strong communication skills, patience, and a commitment to fostering a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Collaboration with social services, employers, and team members is essential to provide comprehensive support and help clients succeed in their roles.

Job description

Your Job
DEPCOM has an immediate need for a Sr. Electrical Engineer. This position has flexibility to be physically located out of one of our sites that are located in Bedminster, NJ, Scottsdale, AZ, or Houston, TX.
As a Senior Electrical Engineer at DEPCOM, you will be a key technical leader in the design and development of Solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) power plants. You will mentor and collaborate with team members to drive high-quality project designs, champion process improvements, and ensure successful project execution. This role offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise across DC, Medium Voltage (MV), and High Voltage (HV) design while taking on broader ownership of engineering quality, delivery standards, and complex technical challenges that require first-principles thinking.
What You Will Do
  • Serve as Technical Resource: Act as the team's escalation point for complex or ambiguous engineering challenges - from unusual fault conditions and non-standard equipment integration to design scenarios that require first-principles analysis.
  • Develop Electrical Drawing Packages: Collaborate with other team members to create comprehensive electrical drawing packages for PV and Energy storage projects from Initial design through Issue For Construction (IFC).
  • Champion Technical Excellence: Bring a critical and experienced eye to engineering deliverables, actively strengthening deliverables in collaboration with the team. Use your depth of knowledge to identify what others might miss and drive solutions that raise the bar without sacrificing schedule.
  • Contract Scope of Work: Review and author contract scopes of work, providing technical input to accurately define deliverables, boundaries of responsibility, and project requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve workflows, design standards, and documentation practices; develop and implement repeatable processes that increase team efficiency and deliverable quality.
  • Cost/Benefit Analyses: Perform analyses for various installation architectures, grounding schemes, and major equipment.
  • Client and Stakeholder Interface: Engage with clients and other stakeholders to support the design and delivery of power plants. Demonstrate intellectual curiosity with a passion to understand the "why" behind problems and designs.
  • Travel: Travel up to 25% to job sites and office locations as required.
  • Culture Champion: Model Koch and DEPCOM's values and Principle Based Management philosophy. Foster a team-oriented attitude &
approach, seek mutually beneficial solutions, and stay committed to project success.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Applied knowledge of Electrical Codes and Standards
  • Experience in Power Infrastructure Design

What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • PE licensure or path to licensure within 2 years
  • Demonstrated commitment to continual learning and professional growth, staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Experience identifying and pursuing innovative solutions that create value for customers, while acting with integrity and stewardship
