Gracious Health Medical Hospital is seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Physician Assistant to join our dynamic Liver Transplant team in Rockford, Illinois. This full-time position entails both inpatient and outpatient care, allowing you to be actively engaged with patients in various stages of their surgical journey. The role includes responsibilities in the operating room and a vital collaboration with a multidisciplinary team aimed at delivering exceptional care across our Surgical Center.

As part of the Surgical Center located in Rockford, Illinois, our facility is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and resources to support a wide range of surgical procedures. The work setting is onsite, and we maintain a 5-day work week with 8-hour shifts from Monday to Friday. Our PA will also participate in monthly on-call responsibilities, ensuring that our patients receive timely and critical care when needed.

• Conduct thorough evaluations and treatment plans for patients presenting with acute and chronic health concerns, specifically in the field of liver and abdominal health.
• Perform detailed assessments, collect comprehensive patient histories, and execute physical examinations on both new and returning individuals, noting both normal and abnormal findings.
• Commission relevant diagnostic studies based on patient evaluations, utilizing hospital protocols for patient care.
• Responsible for administering medications in accordance with established formulary protocols or under specific authorizations from supervising physicians, ensuring strict compliance with medication management policies.
• Collect specimens for laboratory tests and screenings, and facilitate necessary therapeutic interventions, including the administration of blood products when required.
• Order and oversee various therapy modalities, including physical, occupational, and respiratory therapy, along with necessary radiology examinations and nursing services.
• After established proficiency, assist surgeons in the OR, performing both first and second assistant roles as necessary during surgical procedures.
• Ensure informed consent is acquired in accordance with departmental guidelines prior to any procedure.
• Manage the logistics of patient admissions and discharges, completing necessary documentation to ensure a streamlined process for patient flow.
• Assist with coordinating care through investigational studies, ordering tests, and handling medications appropriately per FDA regulations.
• Recognize urgent situations that necessitate immediate actions, including life-saving procedures when necessary, ensuring patient safety and quick response times.
• Engage with patients, families, and clinical staff effectively, ensuring quality communication and education is delivered in a compassionate manner.
• Promote best practices within the department while participating in ongoing quality improvement initiatives.

The Surgical Physician Assistant role is centered around a diverse patient population requiring liver and abdominal transplant services. You'll be working with individuals diagnosed with liver disease, transplant candidates, and postoperative patients, tailoring care and communication strategies to meet the unique and varying needs of each patient.

• Bachelor's degree or above from an accredited college or university.
• Graduate from a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
• Current state licensure as a Physician Assistant (PA) and certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Active DEA registration for prescribed medications.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in surgical or transplant environments, is preferred.

• Experience in a surgical or transplant unit is highly desirable.
• Strong familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, documentation practices, and clinical protocols related to surgical procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

This position offers a competitive salary ranging from USD 140,000 to 180,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
