Job description

Infant/Toddler/Preschool Teacher

The Preschool teacher will assist in the supervision of children ages 6 months to 5 years of age, plan and implement activities for participants.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm or 8:10am-5:10pm 


  • General housekeeping of program space and food preparation
  • Plan and coordinate activities that fit children's developmental needs and interests
  • Record and monitor the daily activities of children in your care
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of the creative learning environment, establishment of interest centers, and preparation of needed material and supplies
  • Communicate with parents effectively and create a positive relationship
  • Interact with children being consistent, fair and treating them with dignity and respect according to the YMCA Code of Conduct
  • Comply with Community Care Licensing regulations at all times
  • Maintain the cleanliness and health standards of the environment at all times
  • Ensure the supervision and safety of children at all times
  • Plan and implement daily schedule and curriculum
  • Plan, supervise and implement the program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
  • Follow emergency procedures appropriately to ensure the safety of the participants and staff
  • Must be highly dependable
  • Must have sincere interest in working with children 2-5 years of age
  • Must have a warm and friendly personality and the sensitivity to meet the needs of a diverse population
  • Must have willingness to fulfill the job responsibilities in accordance to the program and branch goals
  • Physical ability to lift children as needed, change and clean a soiled child, interact and direct play
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act in an emergency situation
  • Physical ability to lead sports, games and curriculum activities, monitor behavior and general housekeeping responsibilities
  • Ability to relate to children and adults in a professional manner. Ability to provide leadership and stability to the program
  • Other duties as assigned needs to be included to all roles

  • 12 CORE units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) required, AA or BA in Early Childhood Education are highly desirable
    • ECE Core courses include: Child Growth & Development, Child, Family and Community and Program/Curriculum
    • At least 6 of the units must be Infant/Toddler classes
  • Minimum of 6 months experience working with youth in a preschool setting
  • Criminal record clearance by being fingerprinted prior to reporting to work and signing a statement regarding criminal convictions
  • A physical exam and negative TB test results within 7 days of hire
  • Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification required within 30 days of hire, unless specified otherwise on contract, and must be from one of the following:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute
