Job SummaryThis position is a temporary position for experienced EMTs to support wildland fire suppression efforts. The EMT will act as a contracted emergency medical resource to the federal government during wildland fire incidents occurring in the continental United States during deployments up to 21 days. Ideal candidates will have a team member mindset as well as are highly skilled professionals with advanced medical training, technical rescue expertise, and the ability to perform under pressure in austere environments. This role requires adaptability, strong problem-solving skills, and a team-oriented mindset to ensure the safety and success of emergency operations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Travel to and from incidents via plane or automobile.
  • Provide BLS medical services in austere environments.
  • Respond to wildland fire incidents where firefighters need rescue or medical assistance.
  • Maintain and secure controlled substances and CS documentation per policy.
  • Complete incident, company, and patient paperwork accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain documentation of incurred expenses.
  • Proficient operation of radio and navigation systems.
  • Knowledge of handheld radio programming and troubleshooting.
  • Ensuring the optimal use of organizational resources.
  • Collaborating with the incident management teams, MEDL, state and federal agency personnel to achieve common goals and drive positive results.
  • Supporting clear, effective, and positive communication internally and externally with partners.
  • Safely operate and maintain vehicles, medical, and rescue equipment.
  • Perform basic maintenance on equipment including vehicles and line gear.
  • Perform other work-related duties as directed by Supervisor.

Required Qualifications
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license with a minimum of 3 years of experience. A REAL ID or valid US Passport is required.
  • Ability to operate a variety of vehicles including 4x4.
  • Current NREMT certification.
  • Current state issued EMT license in good standing.
  • 2 years EMT experience in a 911 system.
  • Ability to pass WCT-A and and S-130.
  • Hold minimum qualifications: S-130, S-190, L-180, ICS-100, ICS-700
  • Ability to work outdoors: walk, climb, run, twist, bend, hike, and carry up to 60 pounds.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Wildland FFT1
  • AWLS, WLS:MP, or other professional wilderness medicine training
  • TECC, TCCC, or PHTLS
  • ACLS
  • ICS 200, 800

Other Information
  • ACS will provide all uniform items and PPE (greens & yellows) except NFPA approved wildland boots.
  • Employees may choose to utilize their own uniform items.
  • Because this is a seasonal position with opportunity dependent on incidents, employees must be available for immediate deployment and travel to incident sites. In the event you are unavailable for deployment, you must communicate that with your supervisor.

Pay and Benefits
  • All employees earn their base hourly wage at $32.00/hour (with overtime at $48.00/hour after 8 hours per day) plus a uniform maintenance stipend and a health & wellness stipend.
  • During travel to and from incidents, employees are paid $50/hour.
  • All employees receive free access to FOAMFrat for continuing education.
  • Employees receive monetary bonuses dependent on performance.

Compensation: $32.00 per hour
