Job description

Comporium is a diversified communications company providing a Quintuple Play of five services -- voice, video, data, wireless and security -- at the retail level; as well as, providing security monitoring and media services for its industry customers. Under this concept, the Comporium Group is uniquely positioned to offer customers a one-stop-shopping for all their communications needs.
SUMMARY
Performs engineering-related duties in support of enterprise objectives with close oversight. Assists with minor translations and routing protocols for voice network. Assists with developing detailed implementation plans to accommodate network growth, security, and enhancements by maximizing functionality of network equipment (switches, routers and gateways). Configure, deploy, test, monitor and troubleshoot telecommunications network components to provide a secure, high-performance network, including services for core LAN/WAN, Voice Over Internet Protocol, Quality of Service, Virtual Local Area Networks, Session Border Controllers and Session Initiated Protocol. Identify and complete tasks requiring attention to detail as directed by management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares necessary project documentation in a timely manner that includes cost estimates, network engineering drawings/designs, and installation specifications.
  • Participates with implementations of new infrastructure and/or making changes to existing networks. Participates with project implementations through completion. Expected to participate in maintenance windows as needed to support equipment additions and changes.
  • Maintains and keeps current network drawings, configurations, and project documentation. Proactively identifies and recommends areas for improvement on voice and data systems, configurations, and installations. Uses available network monitoring tools and systems for troubleshooting and for guidance on recommendations.
  • Assists management with other work assignments, including participation in the annual budgetary discussions (making recommendations, proposals, obtaining pricing, etc.) on equipment needs and other changes for the next three-year budget cycle.
  • Participates in meetings pertaining to system requirements for current and future projects with technical teams. Regularly provides timely written summaries of pertinent meeting details to management.
  • Stays current with voice and data technologies, practices, and standards; acquires relevant training, attends industry seminars, and maintains required certifications.
  • Research (and tests as needed) new voice and data technologies, designs, and configurations; produces delivery models for implementation with minimal oversight and participate in implementation committees.

REQUIREMENTS
  • 4-year Engineering degree or
  • Other 4-year degree, 2-year technical degree or equivalent training, and 2 years of related technical experience
  • Good written and oral communication, computer, and organizational skills
  • Self-sufficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Visio, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of telecommunications or Internet protocols
  • TDM or VoIP certification required within 18 months of start.
