Job description

The Utility position is responsible for assisting the Camera Operator in setup and strike, as well as ensuring a safe operating environment for the Camera Operator and others by discretely managing, triax or other cables. The Utility position works courtside at Memphis Grizzlies and/or Memphis Hustle home games and is responsible for maintaining a safe operating environment. 


  • Work with broadcast and technical staff to satisfy production needs for live or taped event production;
  • Assist handheld camera operator in the setup and strike of the camera and support materials during live/taped events, as well as assist in setup/strike of additional video and audio materials for events;
  • Ensure safety of handheld and tethered camera cable is a priority, including organized and bundled, given movement, in order for camera operator to move effortlessly;
  • Assist on-court talent, players, fans, and guests to facilitate a safe floor and production, as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High School degree or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of six (6) months’ experience in TV studio production, including in-school training.
  • A minimum of six (6) months’ experience and knowledge of live sporting event production, as well as format of the camera operator action and stop-of-action needed.
  • Ability to constantly move and respond in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to maintain safe environment and demonstrate safety as a top priority.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent observational skills.
  • Strong planning and organization skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and the Internet.
  • Must be available to work during evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed. 

Nice to Have:

  • Aptitude and desire to continue training at the next technical level.
  • Able to serve as a fill-in for other broadcast position as needed (I.e. camera operator, etc.)
  • Knowledge and passion for NBA basketball.
