Description
The Operator position within McKenzie County Public Works is responsible for operating heavy equipment and/or trucks to maintain the roads, bridges, and right of ways of roads throughout McKenzie County, as well as transport essential materials. This position is located in Watford City, ND and scheduled for Monday - Thursday during the Winter months and Monday-Friday in the summer months
Essential Job Functions
  • Operate heavy equipment such as dozer, grader, front-end loader, backhoe, mower, excavator, etc. to perform a variety of road maintenance, repair, construction duties, and other assigned tasks relating to roads, bridges, and right of ways.
  • Operates a dump truck to deliver materials for road work including dirt, gravel, and asphalt; operate a tractor-trailer to deliver equipment to work sites
  • Install and maintain ditches and drainage culverts, guardrails, fences, roadway signs, traffic control devices, and other items and equipment that enhance the safety of County highways and drives.
  • Prepare roads for accessibility, which includes preparing shoulder, spraying chemicals, laying gravel, etc.; assists in the building, repair, and re-habilitation of new and substandard roads, including culvert installation, road shaping, etc.
  • Perform winter road maintenance and snow removal through plowing, sanding, and other activities to ensure that roads remain passable. Verify, file and maintain all documents
  • Other duties as assigned for business needs

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent (preferred)
  • 1 year experience truck driving OR 3 years' experience operating heavy equipment
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Must be able to report to Watford City, ND daily at required schedule time
  • Physical requirements and working conditions:
  • Able to handle exposure to noise and extreme weather conditions
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively
