Job Summary:

We are seeking a Sander/Grinder to join our production team. This position is responsible for preparing metal components for paint by sanding, grinding, and inspecting parts to ensure they meet SmartCap's quality standards. The Sander/Grinder uses pneumatic hand tools and other finishing equipment to produce paint-ready surfaces while maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.

Primary job responsibilities include:

  • Sand and grind metal components to prepare surfaces for paint application.
  • Operate pneumatic hand sanders, grinders, and other finishing tools safely and effectively.
  • Inspect incoming and finished parts for scratches, dents, pinholes, weld imperfections, and other quality concerns.
  • Remove surface imperfections and perform finish work to ensure parts are paint-ready.
  • Perform visual inspections to verify parts meet SmartCap quality standards.
  • Identify and report nonconforming parts to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Maintain production standards while meeting quality expectations.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Follow all SmartCap safety policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to safely operate pneumatic hand tools and grinders.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift and move materials throughout the shift.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience in metal fabrication, sanding, grinding, or paint preparation.
  • Experience in an automotive body shop or metal finishing environment is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of quality inspection processes.
Physical Demands:
  • Almost continual standing and walking throughout the shift.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Considerable lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials and parts.
  • Moderate to considerable visual focus required to inspect parts for quality defects.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions:
  • Frequent work in a non-climate-controlled environment with seasonal temperature changes.
  • Considerable exposure to noise levels associated with a manufacturing environment.
