Job description

The Iona Project Chapel Immersion Program is a one-year residential ministry internship for individuals called to Christian community, spiritual formation, and youth ministry within a residential childcare setting. Interns share a common life of prayer, Scripture, mutual accountability, and service, and those accepted into the program covenant to serve for the full one-year term with housing provided.

Essential Duties:

  • Exhibits regular and punctual attendance.
  • Iona Project interns live in Christian community with fellow interns and practice a shared rhythm of spiritual formation centered on (1) prayer and Scripture and (2) mutual accountability, under the guidance of the Senior Chaplain. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Quarterly retreats

- Daily prayer exercises

- Assigned readings

- Weekly group prayer meetings

  • Assists in carrying out an interdenominational Christian chapel ministry for youth that nurtures faith, discipleship, and healthy spiritual growth. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Chapel services and other special worship services

- Christian education for preadolescent/adolescent children

- Weekly devotionals for residents in the program.

- Regularly scheduled youth group meetings

- Special seasonal events

- Service projects and trips

- Interns with musical training may be assigned to assist with music lessons, the student praise band, and other music events and ministry.

  • Provides pastoral care, spiritual guidance, discipleship, and crisis support for residents as needed, and communicates relevant follow-up to appropriate staff.
  • Provides a ministry presence and pastoral visitation to residents during clinic and hospital stays.
  • Helps coordinate and supervise chapel trips, camps, and retreats that support worship, discipleship, and spiritual growth.
  • Supports the operation of chapel media and technology used in worship services, teaching, and ministry events.
  • Regularly attends and supports Boys Ranch extra-curricular school activities and community activities as schedule allows.
  • Ensures safety of youth involved in Chapel programs by following approved childcare supervision protocols.
  • Exhibits Christ-centered, appropriate, and respectful interaction with residents.
  • Helps with the responsible upkeep of chapel facilities and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

1. Must be mature and dependable.

2. Must be highly teachable, flexible, and open to new ideas.

3. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is preferred.

4. Experience in Christian youth ministry, teaching, or childcare is preferred.

5. Basic computer knowledge is required.

6. Must possess exceptional communication, time management, and detail-orientation skills.

7. Must be at least 21 years of age.

8. Bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand/eye coordination, pushing/pulling, prolonged sitting/standing.

9. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

10. Must be available for travel as needed.
