D.R. Horton, Inc. is currently looking for an Ranch Hand in the Ranch Department. The right candidate will  be a large operation with the primary focus of providing a favorable habitat for the native and exotic wildlife.  Besides whitetail and mule deer, there are good-sized populations of elk, axis, fallow, and blackbuck.  Ranch is corporate owned and guest hunters are at the ranch by invitation only; no hunts are sold or available to the public.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Maintain water.  Water wells and troughs must be checked a couple times a week, and more often in the cow pastures and in the summer months.  Pivots are farmed for wildlife forage
  • Fill approximately 60 protein feeders year-round using a feed truck.  Maintain corn feeders during the hunting season
  • Clear and maintain shooting lanes to deer blinds
  • Deliver the guests to and from blinds.  Harvested game is skinned, quartered, and sometimes caped for offsite taxidermy.  Our typical hunting season is October, November, and December
  • Ranch and dude horses are kept near the headquarters and checked daily, but infrequent horseback work
  • Perform maintenance such as oil change, batteries, and tires for ranch trucks and ATV’s
  • Responsible for the lawn care within the irrigated and fenced guest areas.  Apply seasonal spraying of herbicide around cattle guards and wells
  • Gather a small herd of cattle when it is time to sell calves 
  • Assistance is occasionally provided to a sister ranch that raises whitetail breeder deer
  • Work on upkeep for basic building maintenance, such as plumbing, fixtures, ceiling fans, etc. 
  • Conducts all business in a professional and ethical manner to serve customers and increase the goodwill and profit of the company

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must have a vehicle and a valid driver’s license
  • Solid communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter
  • Ability to take and give direction
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral form or via DRH applications
  • Proficiency with MS Office and email

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior ranch experience a plus
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school a plus
