Job description

Our client is working on a Design role with a top intimates company based in NYC. This role is five days a week onsite - open to level - sr level works as well. Need someone with strong bra experience. Also someone who has patternmaking experience is needed. As a Designer you are a pivotal member of the Team, a diverse group of creative thinkers focused on solutions. designers lead the industry, continuously striving to deliver the best fitting and highest quality bras, pants and shapewear. A Designer is responsible for designing compelling collections and expertly fitting styles that consider consumer insights, fabric, construction, and technology while growing the brands market share.
  • Salary based on experience but over $120K or more based on level.
Responsibilities:
  • You are responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and executing complex styles that reflect the seasonal direction within target costs and meets superior fit and quality standards.
  • You are both highly creative and technical, seeking out fresh ideas and innovative designs.
  • You are an expert in bra construction and pattern making, also strong in daywear and shapewear. Responsible for intelligently designing products for a comprehensive size range including pad, molded cup, and wire development.
  • As a designer, you are responsible for moving your design from concept to fit approval, including making critical decisions that have impact on aesthetics, fit, construction, and cost.
  • You own the success or failure of your design and act as steward throughout the style's lifecycle to ensure fit intent is continuously met.
  • Responsible for a smooth handoff of design package to grader including communicating fit intent and any unique fit/pattern characteristics to ensure fit integrity is maintained for the entire size range. Attend Pattern Check fittings to evaluate fit result with pattern grader.
  • Review FOP garments with Technical Engineer to safeguard Wacoal fit, quality and aesthetic standards are upheld.
  • You manage multiple priority projects and are responsible to meet calendar deadlines for all projects and developments by prioritizing said projects, anticipating needs/potential problems, and developing solutions to complete tasks within the scheduled timing.
  • Accountable for on time delivery of all design tasks.
  • Generate patterns with Lectra Modaris System and conduct live model fittings with minimal supervision, uphold fit intent of each style and integrity of the product line/brands.
  • Manage assigned sample makers in delivering correctly sewn design fit garments with accurate measurements.
  • Communicate and seek alignment with Design Director promptly on all details.
  • Collaborate and communicate with key cross-functional partners throughout the design process including Merchandising, Product Development, Pattern Grading and Technical Engineering.
  • Initiate Tech Packs for contractors throughout all stages of design development and fit processes.
  • Awareness of how product line is performing and partner with Design Director to action feedback for continual innovation.
  • Stay on top of consumer fit preferences and collaborate with Design Director to evolve fit philosophy.
  • You take initiative and participate in activities/projects to add more value to the company and drive business growth.
  • You inspire and assist in developing junior design talent.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluation of assigned sample makers.
  • Foster collaborative and effective relationships internally and externally.
Required Qualifications:
  • 10 years minimum experience in intimate apparel industry required
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Technical Design, Product Development and Patterning
  • Ability to respond quickly and handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, flexible and can manage change.
  • Self-starter who brings passion, enthusiasm and focus to their day to day business.
  • Aptitude for working independently and in conjunction with team.
  • Strong communication, attention, timeline management and organizational skills.
  • Hands on fit experience and strong knowledge of bra construction and technical fit including molded cup and pad development is a must.
  • Understands and able to select effective sewing operations for different garment construction.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fabrics, trims and their performance in garment form.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint etc.), Lectra Modaris System; Adobe Illustrator is a bonus
