Job description

THE ROLE

The Merchandising Manager, Outdoor Furniture role is responsible for delighting Quince's growing customer base by expanding and managing the Outdoor Furniture product assortment on Quince.

At Quince, we believe that everyone deserves access to high quality products at radically affordable prices.  We believe the marketplace for consumer products is inundated with too many options, and customers find product quality difficult to determine and yet frequently pay more for a variety of things that can be delivered at much lower prices.  Our goal is to find the best products in the marketplace and connect the makers of these goods directly to the customers who want them. 

Quince has proven the consumer value proposition and has built a loyal, repeat consumer base.  We want to build on that value proposition and continue to scale in both existing and new product categories. This merchant leading Outdoor Furniture will be responsible for managing the assortment, revenue and margins, and overall growth trajectory of that product category.

Quince's growth and success is directly tied to the performance and success of this role. The person in this role will be an innovator at heart leveraging the attributes below to build and run our emerging categories strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Outdoor Furniture assortment strategy, ensuring the category delivers on Quince's promise of exceptional quality at accessible prices
  • Launch and expand new and adjacent product types in year one, including additional cushion types, outdoor bistro sets, umbrellas, fire tables, chaise lounges, etc. 
  • Lead sample feedback and approvals for all new and resourced products (product approvals may require ~10% time spent traveling overseas) 
  • Leverage data and customer insights to build, optimize, and scale the assortment - analyzing performance, refining product mix, and making evidence-based decisions - to meet customer needs and achieve financial goals (revenue, margin, inventory health, return rate, etc.) 
  • Continuously identify whitespace in the assortment and refine product roadmap based on new information and learnings 
  • Leveraging data for ratings, reviews, and return rates, conduct quality improvements for any products in assortment with improvement opportunities 
  • Partner closely with Sourcing to identify and develop new products, with a focus on performance, sustainability, and the highest quality materials and craftsmanship 
  • Collaborate with marketing, site, and creative teams to ensure compelling product launches and storytelling that reflect brand positioning, particularly for this highly seasonal category
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration, serving as the category expert and advocate for the customer
  • Operate as a structured, data-driven decision maker while balancing the art and science of merchandising
  • Serve as a strong communicator and cross-functional partner in driving category success

Qualifications

Required:

  • Role is based in San Francisco California, with 3 days per week in office requirement.
  • 8-10 years of retail merchandising experience in the home furnishings category, preferably with luxury expertise in outdoor furniture 
  • E-commerce experience and/or DTC experience preferred
  • Proven track record of progressing within an organization and demonstrating continuous growth in roles and responsibilities
  • Product obsessed with experience in leveraging data tools and external sources
  • Critical eye to anticipate customer needs (both the "science" and "art" of retail merchandising)
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and analytical with focus on execution, problem-solving, improving processes and brand enhancement
  • Continuous learner and highly curious; always open to considering new perspectives; proactive when changing course and facing added challenges
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Motivated by working in a fast-paced collaborative environment, where flexibility to stretch into or out of functional comfort zones is crucial for team success
