Job description

Founded by the Channell family in 1922, Channell is a global designer, manufacturer, and seller of outside plant infrastructure equipment. The markets served by Channell are Telecommunications, Municipalities, Internet Service Providers, Wireless, Water, Power, and CATV among others. Major product lines include a complete line of thermoplastic and metal fabricated enclosures, fiber optic cable connection and management systems and high performance below grade vaults.
JOB SUMMARY:
Receiving Clerk-Material Handler is responsible for the physical movement of all received items from staging areas to storage areas, movement of all completed or partially completed work in process inventory to designated staging areas, supplying work centers with all materials and supplies used in production and ensuring that all product moved is properly identified and quantified.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Clear, effective oral and written communication
  • Safely operate forklifts and all warehousing equipment
  • Accurately and efficiently perform material transactions using handheld scanners and Oracle software platforms
  • Able to use computers and familiarity with MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Wear required safety equipment/PPE
  • Observe and enforce manufacturing and warehousing safety practices
  • Perform area clean up as needed
  • Report all accidents or near misses to department lead and/or shift supervisor
  • Work over-time as needed
  • Flexibility to cover different shifts based on Company needs

KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • Warehousing, shipping and receiving practices
  • Good understanding of quality and safety practices

ABILITY TO/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
  • Proper use of warehousing equipment
  • Must understand and follow all departmental safety rules
  • Proper use of all safety equipment
  • Understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • ISO sections pertaining to the position

EQUIPMENT USED:
  • Forklifts
  • Pallet jacks
  • Hand trucks
  • Stretch wrap machine
  • Banding equipment
  • Barcode scanners and printers
  • Computer system; UPS, FedEx and Oracle platforms, MS Word, Excel and Outlook

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Have at least one year of experience working in a warehouse, manufacturing, or production facility
  • Have at least one year of forklift experience and forklift certification
  • Logistics or supply chain background preferred
  • High School graduate or GED equivalent
  • Must be able to speak, read/comprehend and write in English
  • Obtain and maintain forklift operator certification
  • Good vision (this can be accomplished with corrective lenses),central and peripheral vision in both eyes to detect objects or movement in the field of view.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands and working conditions requirement indicated below are examples of the demands that must be performed in carrying out the essential job functions.
Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, use of central and peripheral vision, and hearing (up to continuously); speaking/verbal communication, bend/stoop, twist neck and torso (frequently); reach, hold, grasp, push, pull, lift/carry raw material, finished product, tools and machinery up to 50 pounds (frequently)
Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors; exposure to temperatures and conditions commensurate with outdoor seasonal temperatures.
