Position Summaryย 

Performs mosquito abatement under supervision to reduce the risk of mosquito-borne diseases.ย 
ย 

Pay Grade:ย 42Hย 
ย 

Minimum Qualificationsย 

  • Twoย (2) years of experience on-the-job or formal training in pest,ย mosquitoes, or vector control;ย ANDย 
  • High school diploma or a GED.ย 
  • PROOF OF EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.ย 
    ย 

Duties and Responsibilitiesย 

  • Develops a knowledge of mosquito identification, basic mosquitoย biologyย and control.ย 
  • Performs duties as part of an integrated pest management approach to mosquito control.ย 
  • Completes daily work records and prepares operational reports asย required.ย 
  • Trains, assigns duties, and evaluates crew membersย assistingย in operations.ย 
  • Drives andย maintainsย assigned vehicle.ย 
  • Assures operations performedย are in compliance withย the county's National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.ย 
  • Assures aย high-levelย productivity and efficiency of work activities.ย 
  • Assures that all policies and procedures are followed.ย 
  • Performs maintenance of ditches and natural waterways using small tools andย powerย equipment, i.e., shovels, picks, weed eaters, brush cutters, handheld sprayers, etc.ย 
  • Removes and trims vegetation along ditches and natural waterways.ย 
  • Clears,ย maintainsย and/or digs soil, trash, and objects to improve drainage ditches and natural waterways.ย 
  • Performs other related duties asย requiredย or directed.ย 
    ย 

KSAsย 

  • Knowledge of the use of hand tools and power equipment used in vector control work and their proper maintenance, e.g., shovels, picks, weed eaters, brush cutters, and handheld sprayers.ย 
  • Knowledge of the names and composition of insecticides as well as their modes of action in killing mosquitoes.ย ย 
  • Knowledge of mosquito diversity, biology, and ecology.ย 
  • Ability to physically perform assigned tasks.ย 
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.ย 
  • Ability to work cooperatively with coworkers and the public.ย 
  • Ability to express ideas clearly,ย conciselyย and effectively.ย 
  • Ability toย identifyย common mosquito pests and vectors by eye in the field.ย ย 
  • Ability to read and understand pesticide labels and vector control program policies and procedures.ย

Special Requirementsย 

  • Mustย possessย a valid Tennessee driver license or secure one by date of employment.ย 
  • Must be able to work shifts, weekends,ย and on call.ย

Physical Requirementsย ย 

  • Must be able to push/pull and/or lift lower objects weighing 25-50 lbs.ย ย 
  • Must be able to walk on uneven ground,ย ascendย and descend steep inclinations, stoop, squat, crawl, and perform other physical duties asย required.ย 
  • Must be able to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.ย
