Eagle Pool and Ice Rink is seeking enthusiastic youth and adult ice skate instructors for the 2026-2027 winter season. Instructors will teach skating fundamentals using the Learn to Skate USA curriculum, providing a safe, fun, and supportive environment for participants. Responsibilities include supervising skaters on the ice, demonstrating proper techniques, assisting with lesson planning, and assessing participant progress throughout the program.

POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Ice Skate Instructor

Location: Eagle Pool and Ice Rink (Eagle, CO)

Employment Type: Part-Time, Seasonal - September through April 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Overtime Eligible)

Schedule: Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and multi-day trips. Flexibility is required to successfully fulfill job responsibilities.

Supervision Required: Works under the supervision of the Eagle Pool and Ice Rink Facility Supervisor and Facility Coordinator

Supervision Exercised: None


Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Work is primarily performed indoors in an ice arena, with regular exposure to cold temperatures and varying noise levels. Work schedules may include evenings and weekends and require reliable attendance for scheduled classes. The position requires consistent mental and visual attention while instructing and monitoring participants on the ice. Physical demands include prolonged periods of ice skating, standing, balancing, bending, reaching, demonstrating skating skills and techniques, and assisting participants as needed. The position requires frequent use of voice for instruction and may involve periods of continuous physical activity and participant interaction.

Salary: $25.00 per class, DOE; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

General Statement of Duties: Provide Learn to Ice Skate program instruction and supervision with some independence. Teach progressive skills that are fundamental to the sport of ice skating. Promote an environment consistent with program philosophies and goals.


Examples of Duties:

  • Instructs and supervises participants in Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey programs, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Ensures the safe use and security of the facility; reports any instances of vandalism, theft, or suspicious behavior.
  • Maintains accurate records, forms, and documentation as required.
  • Responds promptly to accidents and incidents in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists with the setup and breakdown of equipment and facility spaces for programs and events.
  • Maintains cleanliness and proper care of all facilities and equipment.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally with participants, parents, and staff, providing accurate information regarding programs and schedules.
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter by recognizing and reporting any suspected incidents of child abuse or neglect.
  • Reports any issues with equipment or ice conditions to the supervisor immediately.
  • Provides the public with information regarding facility operations and available recreation programs.
  • Maintains general knowledge of Mountain Recreation's offerings and policies.
  • Monitors patron safety within the facility and assists during emergency situations.
  • Administers first aid when necessary and follows appropriate emergency response protocols.
  • Notifies the supervisor of any known hazards or potential safety concerns affecting staff or patrons.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support facility operations and program success.

Requirements

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable knowledge of: Ice skating instruction including the fundamental skills of the sport and safety guidelines.


Skills and abilities: 

  • Demonstrate initiative and exercise some independent decision making, plan activities and tasks.
  • Provide leadership from within team
  • Effectively communicate with staff and public, interact with a variety of patrons/participants
  • Demonstrate ice skating techniques
  • Ability to ice skate proficiently
  • Establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts. 

Requirements:

Education and experience:

  • Must be 15 years of age or older; AND
  • High School graduate or currently attending high school; AND
  • One-year previous work-related experience with ice hockey/ice skate instructional programs; OR
  • Any satisfactory combination of experience and training.
  • Knowledge of USA Figure Skating or USA Hockey Programs preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English preferred

Certifications:

  • May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
