Scope of PositionBe part of Lewis and Clark Community College's mission to empower people and foster achievement through dynamic, compassionate, and responsible learning experiences. In this role, you will assist the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC) in collecting ecological field data in large river floodplains, riparian zones and adjacent areas. The team member in this position will participate in a variety of field and laboratory research activities, providing day-to-day support for NGRREC scientists, visiting scholars, and research equipment. It is anticipated to have multiple hires with start dates ranging from mid-February 2026 to mid-May 2026.
*Temporary hourly position(s) supported by grants/contracts; hours vary week to week during seasonal period up to 37.5 hours, position ends within 6 months after start date, these positions are not eligible for the full-time team member benefits package.* Key Measurable Expectations (KMEs)- Serve as a field technician in support of NGRREC's various research and monitoring programs contributing to LC's mission of fostering achievement and environmental stewardship.
- Collect field data related to vegetation, animals, soils, and associated environmental characteristics.
- Maintain awareness of and compliance with NGRREC Standard Lab/Field Safety and Responsibilities, reflecting LC's commitment to valuing people and creating safe, inclusive environments.
- Operate field equipment as required, ensuring responsible use and care.
- Enter data into computerized databases and/or spreadsheets with accuracy.
- Overnight travel may be required.
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions- Progress towards a degree in forestry, ecology, biology, environmental science, soil science, or a related field.
- Knowledge of basic plant identification and inventory techniques in natural vegetation communities.
- Knowledge of basic animal ecology.
- Physical ability to work outdoors in rough terrain (including areas where venomous snakes are present) and all-weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Physical ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Valid Drivers' License.
Preferred Qualifications- Physical ability to drive a vehicle towing a trailer and operate small watercraft.
In this Part-Time, Seasonal role, Team Members can expect to be paid an hourly rate of $16.96; previous incumbents in the role are eligible for an enhanced hourly rate.
