Description

Job Summary The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons in a pool or lakefront facility by scanning and monitoring swim zones and preventing & responding to emergencies.

Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Job Duties Include, but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Guard the pool or waterfront, maintaining appropriate zone coverage and adequate scanning.
  • Enforce facility rules in order to prevent aquatic emergencies.
  • Effectively participate in regular training and in-service sessions, demonstrating proper knowledge and mastery of lifeguard skills.
  • Conduct or assist in swim testing procedures.
  • Perform daily opening and closing tasks and checklists.
  • Cleaning and organizing pool deck and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean facility and swimming area.
  • Perform rescues, and work as part of the rescue team in case of aquatic emergencies.
  • Initiate and follow emergency procedures as outlined in the facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Perform first aid and fill out appropriate paperwork.
  • Place and remove lane lines or swim area demarcations.
  • Conduct and properly document pool readings.
  • Perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the district's safety program.
  • Assist in set up and organization of the pool or beach office, and first aid locations.
  • Field and answer patron questions to the best of their ability. Operate point-of-sale and check-in software when appropriate.
  • Greet patrons and provide professional and positive customer service.
Qualifications

Must be 15 years old or more. Must be able to swim. No prior lifeguard experience or training needed. PDHP staff will train and certify all hired lifeguards prior to their first day on the job. Must have or be able to successfully complete a StarGuard Elite Lifeguard training program, including successful completion of an in-water skills test, written examination, and CPR, AED, and First Aid skills test.

Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

StarGuard Elite Certified Lifeguard with CPR, AED, Oxygen Support, and First Aid

Seasonal, non-exempt

$16.50 - $18.25 per hour

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The Lifeguard works in a climate of an average of 86 degrees Fahrenheit with humidity. He/she must be able to respond quickly and accurately. He/she handles chemicals when performing the water tests.
