Summary

Aspasia Coffee and Bake Shop is looking for an Artisanal Baker to join our team and create high-quality, handcrafted gluten-free baked goods. The ideal candidate has a deep respect for traditional baking techniques, attention to detail, and a creative touch. From naturally leavened breads to rustic pastries, youll play a key role in producing small-batch products that highlight flavor, texture, and presentation.

This person should be passionate about baking and be inspired to create masterpieces that go beyond our customers expectations.

To be successful in this role you must be well-versed in the culinary arts and adhere to strict standards of hygiene and cleanliness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare a variety of artisanal baked goods including breads, pastries, and specialty items from scratch.

Mix, shape, proof, and bake doughs using traditional techniques.

Ensure all products meet quality and consistency standards.

Manage production schedules to maintain freshness and minimize waste.

Maintain a clean and organized workstation in compliance with health and safety regulations.

Assist with recipe development, seasonal menu changes, and new product innovation.

Test new recipes for pastries, breads, and baked goods, experimenting with ingredients and techniques to enhance menu offerings.

Monitor ingredient inventory and communicate supply needs to management.

Occasionally interact with customers, explaining ingredients or techniques when needed.

Qualification

Formal education in culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, or a related field. This may include a certificate program, diploma, or degree from a culinary school, community college, or vocational institute.

Proven experience in a bakery or similar setting; artisanal or scratch baking experience preferred.

Knowledge of fermentation, proofing times, and dough handling.

Thorough understanding of food safety and sanitation practices to ensure the safety and quality of the products they prepare. This includes knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and hygiene procedures.

Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to consistency.

Excellent time management and multitasking abilities.

Passion for food, craftsmanship, and creativity in baking.

Effective communication skills

Skilled in operating kitchen equipment

Food Handler Card required; company administered

ServSafe Certification preferred

Preferred Skills

Experience with gluten-free or specialty diets is a plus.

Familiarity with using natural starters or preferments.

Knowledge of international baking traditions.


Supervision

The employee performs work under the supervision of the Production Kitchen Manager.

Work environment and Physical Demands

  • Work with hot, cold, and potentially hazardous equipment
  • May be required to work in very warm or cold conditions for an extended period of time
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand
  • The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
