Job description

Position Summary

Ray’s Sport and Marine in Bemidji is looking for a Marine & Powersports Mechanic to join our service department. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining boats, outboard motors, trailers, and Arctic Cat motorsports products.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical ability, takes pride in quality work, and can work efficiently in a busy dealership environment. Marine, powersports, small engine, automotive, or mechanical experience is preferred, but we are willing to work with the right person who has the ability and willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and service boats, outboard motors, trailers, snowmobiles, ATVs, and side-by-sides.
  • Perform routine maintenance, inspections, tune-ups, winterizations, spring services, and pre-delivery inspections.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, fuel, cooling, steering, and drivetrain issues.
  • Install parts, accessories, electronics, and related equipment as needed.
  • Complete repair orders accurately and document work performed, parts used, and additional recommendations.
  • Communicate with the service manager or service writer regarding job status, needed parts, delays, or customer concerns.
  • Work with the parts department to identify and request correct parts for repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow manufacturer service procedures, dealership processes, and safety guidelines.
  • Help inspect trade-ins, customer units, and inventory units when needed.
  • Support seasonal workload, including boating season, winterization season, and motorsports service demand.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and work well with coworkers across service, parts, and sales.

Qualifications

  • Previous marine, powersports, small engine, automotive, diesel, or mechanical repair experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of outboard motors, boats, trailers, snowmobiles, ATVs, or side-by-sides is helpful.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and service manuals.
  • Ability to read and follow manufacturer repair procedures.
  • Good attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate boats, trailers, snowmobiles, ATVs, and side-by-sides as needed.

Preferred Experience

  • Marine dealership or powersports dealership experience.
  • Arctic Cat product experience.
  • Outboard motor service experience.
  • Boat rigging or accessory installation experience.
  • Electrical and diagnostic experience.
  • Manufacturer certifications or technical training.
  • Lightspeed EVO or other dealership management system experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in and around boats and equipment.
  • Ability to lift and move parts, tools, batteries, motors, and equipment as needed.
  • Ability to work in shop, yard, warehouse, and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to safely operate tools, lifts, trailers, and service equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced seasonal dealership environment.

Schedule

This position may require some Saturdays and seasonal overtime during peak service periods. Schedule may vary based on dealership needs and seasonal demand.
