Job description

Job Title and Summary:

Lead Instructor: In charge of training hockey players with a wide range of ages in an on-ice and off-ice setting. This also includes creating a development plan and monitoring the progress of the athletes during the time of training and during the athlete's season. Will also be responsible for growing the program by evaluating players and recruiting new members.


Statement of Job Purposes and Objectives:

Responsible for providing high quality coaching and skill instruction while building relationships with our members. The position's goal is to create a quality development progression that allows each player to grow and excel as they move forward in hockey and outside of hockey. This position serves as a direct report and leader to the part-time and seasonal staff and role model to our members.


Major Job Duties:

  • A Lead Instructor is responsible for creating a specific practice and development plan to run for each age and skill level we train.
  • Follow that specific practice plan to ensure that each focus during a practice is given enough time for the athlete to apply what has been taught.
  • Maintain the integrity of the program by providing a high level of coaching and skill development.
  • Make decisions on program levels and where players should be placed.
  • Monitor part time staff members to ensure that they are following company practices when it comes to providing the level of training that the members expect.
  • Evaluating potential members and being able to give proper and in-depth feedback on performance.
  • Recruiting new members.
  • Communicating with potential new members and providing a description of the program that we offer, must be able to field questions on format.
  • Watch athletes during the season to ensure that they are developing and be able to give any necessary feedback on how they are progressing.
  • Setting up and providing video IQ sessions with members.
  • Help provide members and create rosters for preview tournaments that FHIT and MAP host, including Holiday Skates and special events.
  • Provide in-season training for youth associations, help with skill development such as speed and strength, skating stride, and stick handling/shooting technique.
  • Facility maintenance, sweeping, mopping, cleaning workout equipment to ensure a safe and clean environment.
