Job description

Route Driver and Rug Shop Technician - Mountlake Terrace, WA

Location: MLT Plant, 6601 220th St SW, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043

$22/hr base + commissions and performance bonuses. Total earning potential up to $28/hr ($46,000-$58,000/year). Full-time year-round work in Mountlake Terrace, WA. No experience needed - we pay you to train.

This is not a warehouse job, and it is not a delivery job. It is both, plus a craft.

Alpine Specialty Services has cleaned the Puget Sound's homes since 1969. We are hiring one person to run our area rug plant - and "run it" is the right phrase, because this is the rare job where one person owns something end to end.

Here is your actual day. You load the van and drive a local route, picking up area rugs from homes around the Sound. Some of these rugs are worth more than a car. You bring them back to our Mountlake Terrace shop, and then you clean them - wash, rinse, dry, groom, wrap. You watch a rug that came in gray and tired go back out looking like the day it was bought. Then you drive it home and hand it back to the person who owns it.

That last part is the whole job. You are the one who sees their face.

Why people like this job

  • You are not doing the same thing for eight hours. Half driving, half hands-on shop work, and real conversations with customers in between.
  • You own it start to finish. The rug leaves with you and comes back with you. Nobody else touches it. That is rare in this trade.
  • You learn a real skill. Wool, silk, viscose, hand-knotted, antique - they all clean differently, and we will teach you. It is knowledge that stays with you.
  • You are home for dinner. Local routes, no overnight travel, 7:00 AM start.
  • The owner still answers the phone. We are family-owned, 57 years in, and small enough that you are a name here, not a number.

Pay and Earning Potential

  • $22 per hour base pay to start
  • Commissions and performance bonuses on top of base pay
  • Total earning potential up to $28 per hour
  • Full-time, year-round work - this is not seasonal
  • Paid training from day one and a clear advancement path

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, five-day work week, year-round
  • Day shift, 7:00 AM start; local routes, no overnight travel
  • Occasional Saturday rotations during peak season
  • Overtime available during peak season

What You Will Do

  • Clean area rugs in our shop - wash, rinse, dry, groom, and wrap them to Alpine standards
  • Drive our local route to pick rugs up from customers' homes and deliver finished rugs back
  • Take care of walk-in customers at the counter - check rugs in, tag them, and collect payment
  • Tag and track every rug on the rack so we always know whose rug is where, and close each job out on the tablet the same day
  • Run the supply room - receive and stock product, label and distribute, mix Pro-Spot, and keep the shop sharp
  • Talk with customers about their rugs and point out services that genuinely help (no pressure sales)

What We Are Looking For

  • Valid Washington driver's license with an insurable driving record
  • Comfortable driving a van on local routes
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and move rolled rugs in and out of homes (we will show you how on day one)
  • Organized and detail-minded - a mis-tagged rug is somebody's bad day, and we do not have those
  • Someone customers trust in their home
  • No rug experience required. We pay you to learn it.

Nice to Have

  • Delivery, route, warehouse, or shop experience
  • Rug, carpet, restoration, or field-service experience
  • Inventory or supply room experience

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid vacation and holidays
  • Retirement plan with company match
  • Free on-site workout/fitness room
  • Employee discounts on services
  • Company events and recognition programs

Fifty-seven years in, we are still here because we do the work right. Our area rug plant is a craft, and the person who runs it is the reason a customer's rug comes back the way they hoped.
