Job description
As a scare actor at Lake Compounce during Phantom Fall Fest, you will provide guests with unique haunted maze and scare zone experiences. The role requires enthusiasm for acting and creativity and the ability to transform into a frightening creature through full makeovers and costuming.

- Entertain guests with frighteningly fun performances by delivering realistic and scary performances.
- Remain in character throughout scheduled shifts, walking, running, using props, etc.
- Effectively scare guests in the park’s scare zones.
- Greet and interact with all guests in a scariest manner possible.
- Demonstrate control, restraint, and awareness to minimize escalation of over‑scare.
- Maintain a safe environment, keep an arm’s distance from guests, keep escape routes clear, follow safety standards.
- Use props, lights, or noise makers to enhance the scare experience.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Comply with all park policies, procedures, and labor laws.
- Proactively monitor assigned areas and report hazards to authorities.
- Perform all duties assigned by leadership.
Fluent English; Spanish or other bilingual skills are a plus.
Education & Experience- No educational requirements; passion for scaring.
- Previous haunt experience preferred.
- Pass audition and attend character training.
- Minimum 16 years of age to comply with Connecticut Child Labor Laws.
- Obtain Working Papers if under 18.
- Flexible schedule: evenings, weekends, holidays (including Halloween).
- Work 20+ hours per week when needed.
- Reliable transportation.
- Comply with grooming, uniform and/or costume standards.
- Remain in character during performance.
- Strong cardio endurance, physical storytelling, performance energy.
- Playful, outgoing, friendly, positive, guest‑centric attitude.
- Effective verbal and non‑verbal acting and communication skills.
- Follow direction, multi‑task, team player.
- Stand, walk, stay on feet for majority of day.
- Wear assigned costume for extended periods.
- Frequent stoop, twist, kneel, bend, squat, reach above shoulders.
- Perform in costumes with limited sight lines.
- Carry, push, pull, lift, hold objects up to 30 pounds or more.
- Outdoor and indoor park areas.
- Extreme warm or cold temperatures during autumn.
- Variable outside temperatures, high heat, cold, direct sun, humidity, dust, rain, snow, ice.
- Frequent interruptions, repetitive motion, high noise levels, flashing lights, strobe lights, dark environments, heavily populated areas.
- Flexible schedule.
