Matrix Sciences provides a uniquely comprehensive scope of laboratory, advisory, research, AgSciences and data management services that support our customers’ confidence in bringing safe, quality food to market.

The Matrix Sciences Agriculture lab in our Tulare, CA location performs testing of soils, plant tissue, irrigation water, manure/compost, and animal feed materials.

Why it matters:

This facility provides lab and field services throughout the Central Valley and Western state region. The analysis provides valuable data for agronomists, viticulturalists, animal nutritionists and ecologists to evaluate and advise the Ag Industry to manage crop production inputs, to benefit food quality and limit environmental impact.

Role Summary:

The Prep Technician will be preparing and processing the samples from the field for lab extraction and analysis. This role will be trained to adhere to good laboratory procedures and techniques.

What you’ll do:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Assist with daily receipt and preparation of samples.
  • Read work orders, identify samples, and label according to sample type and analysis.
  • Wash, process, and store samples as required.
  • Grind leaves/soil samples for testing.
  • Dry, mix, weigh samples following standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare lab solutions/reagents for sample preparation.
  • Wash/dry glassware as needed.
  • Help keep laboratory work areas clean and organized.
  • Perform sample preparation following standard operating procedures. Adhere to laboratory safety procedures and reporting standards. Maintain a clean work environment.
  • Perform equipment monitoring and verification on basic laboratory items.
  • Identify, communicate, and document non-conformities related to daily activities.
  • Perform routine laboratory operations on samples according to the Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure accurate and complete traceability and documentation of testing activities performed.
  • Ensure samples are processed efficiently to meet client expectations for turnaround time.
  • Identify and assist with implementation of process improvements.

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Relevant industry experience.
  • Two years’ work experience desired.
  • Associates degree desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team.
  • Positive outlook with the ability to adapt to a fast-paced changing work environment.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly lift 15-30 lbs.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a seasonal full-time position, hourly non-exempt. The schedule for this position is M-F 8am-5pm, with an occasional Saturdays. Potential overtime during the busy season. Schedules may be adjusted according to business needs. The duration of the seasonal role is April-October.
